Role Description
Deltek is seeking an experienced construction specifier to help maintain our library of master guide specifications spanning vertical building design and infrastructure. Candidates should have subject matter expertise in either architecture or engineering (electrical, mechanical, HVAC, etc.).
As a Specifications Writer, you will help ensure the quality and integrity of AIA MasterSpec and Deltek SpecText guide specifications within your discipline, often working with external consultants. In this capacity, you will have the following responsibilities:

Update existing specification content (including supporting documents) and create new content by researching relevant sources, including product literature, manufacturers' websites, industry standards, trade association and professional society publications, reference materials, and model building codes. Follow internal guidelines for writing style and workflow processes through publication.

Work with and expand a stable of external consultants in your discipline and guide their work, defining their scope of work for updating specification content, conducting technical review of their work, and shepherding the content through internal processes to publication.

Evaluate products for inclusion in specification content based on technical knowledge, subject matter expertise, and specification writing norms and conventions.

Collaborate with other Deltek departments on initiatives such as enhancement of the Specpoint platform that hosts our specification content, providing input as requested.

Respond to questions and comments from external customers such as specification subscribers and building product manufacturers, as well as internal customers such as sales and marketing staff.

Adhere to internal style guides and CSI specification writing principles and formats, as well as internal processes for technical and editorial review of content.

Make occasional presentations and write thought leadership pieces related to the subject matter of assigned specification sections.

Qualifications

Registered architect or licensed practicing engineer preferred. If not a registered architect or licensed practicing engineer, CSI CDT required with CCS and/or CCCA certification(s) preferred. LEED AP certification a plus.

10+ years of experience required in architecture practice or one or more of the following engineering disciplines: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, civil, structural. Experience must include working in building construction settings for firms specializing in engineering, architecture, construction management, specification consulting, or project management.

Minimum 5 years of experience editing or writing specification sections required. Familiarity with MasterFormat and Uniformat. Experience with Specpoint a plus.

Excellent interpersonal skills and connections throughout the engineering and construction industry.

Experience working with others in a team setting, communicating directly with customers, and managing projects. People management experience a plus.

Must have the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time and the ability to professionally deal with manufacturers, manufacturer representatives, Deltek staff, and consultants. Strong organizational skills essential. Public speaking experience a plus.

Experience with BIM, Revit, and other tools of the trade, as well as Microsoft Office suite of products. Experience using AI tools to enhance productivity desired.

Candidates with less experience will be considered for a lower-level position.
