[Hiring] Spring Internship - Production Editorial Intern @HarperCollins Publishers

Role Description

Reporting to a Production Editorial Manager, the Production Editorial Intern will be a key member of the team responsible for preparing books for publication during the final stages of development. In their role, the Production Editorial Intern will assist the department in its daily operations by:

• Reviewing typeset pages, printers’ proofs, and final PDFs to ensure that quality standards are met.
• Reviewing book jackets and covers through various passes.
• Collating proofreader and author changes to interior text files.
• Checking the inputting of corrections and applying layout standards.
• Completing cold reads when required.

The Production Editorial Intern will work on a wide range of children’s and adult trade titles, immersed in the day-to-day functioning of a busy department, and will have the opportunity for one-on-one meetings with employees across the organization.

Qualifications

• Available to work in a full-time capacity in 2027 or 2028.
• Open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master’s students, or entry-level candidates with up to 1 year of work experience.
• Must be available to work 21 hours per week across 3 or 4 days, from February 8 to April 16, 2027.
• This internship is compensated at a rate of $18 per hour.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
• A resume and cover letter are required; applications without a cover letter will not be considered.
• Ideal candidates are either currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or master’s program.
• A passion for books is highly valued!

Requirements

• Mark up PDFs (using Adobe Acrobat commenting tools) with editorial and layout corrections.
• Conduct production editorial checks on typeset pages (checking line breaks, text flow, folios, headers and footers, stacking, widows and orphans, formatting, sketch and art checks, etc.).
• Proofread and fact-check cover copy.
• Copyedit/proofread ancillary documents, such as praise pages, marketing materials, reading group guides, etc.
• Assist with bound galley production and reprint corrections as needed.
• Assist with administrative duties and keep status grids up to date.
• Attend departmental and company meetings as required.
