[Hiring] Lead editor @Fuller Project

2wks ago - Fuller Project is hiring a remote Lead editor. 💸 Salary: usd 77,000 - 90,000 per year 📍Location: Worldwide

Role Description

We are looking to contract an editor with experience commissioning investigations and enterprise features, and a demonstrable interest in gender equity issues, for nine months of maternity leave cover (with the possibility of extension to 12 months), starting in mid-September 2026.

Fuller’s new editorial strategy sets out to diversify our content formats, routes to audience, partnerships and impact measures. With the exception of special reporting projects, investigations and social-first video journalism, most of our journalism is delivered through an edition model – we publish on average six editions per year.

The lead editor plays a central role ideating, commissioning for and overseeing the rollout of each edition, ensuring:

  • Originality
  • High editorial quality
  • Visual and thematic coherence
  • Impact and engagement across all formats

The lead editor is expected to:

  • Commission, edit and fact-check enterprise features, investigations and engaging journalism on issues that disproportionately affect women, girls and gender minorities around the world.
  • Edit newsletters and provide guidance on video and audio scripts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with multimedia contributors and newsroom collaborators across main coverage areas (tech, health, labor, conflict and climate) and edition themes.
  • Represent Fuller at events, speaking to our model, mission and journalism.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of experience commissioning and editing longform features and investigations
  • Exceptional editorial judgement, written and verbal English as well as attentiveness to detail
  • Possesses subject matter knowledge of, and/or interest in, gender and LGBTQ+ equality, audience-centered journalism and journalistic impact production
  • Keen interest in how journalism production is changing and how that shapes how we attempt to reach audience
  • Demonstrable experience of multimedia editing, writing and storytelling
  • Confident with a range of content management systems and social media platforms
  • A strong understanding of journalistic standards and media law
  • Creative team player with excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively on stories with a global context
  • Established networks with newsrooms in our main target markets: US and UK
  • Experience working with journalists whose first language is not English and who may not be accustomed to writing for global audiences

Requirements

  • Edit, fastidiously fact-check or proof a wide range of editorial output – in different formats – to a high standard.
  • Commission impactful and original investigations and enterprise reporting that spotlight systemic gendered harms or solutions.
  • Provide feedback and notes on drafts in a constructive and timely manner to staff and external contributors, while respecting an individual’s tone of voice.
  • Plan the delivery, distribution and impact production of stories commissioned and contribute ideas for stories commissioned by other editors.
  • Manage the editing workflow with clarity and efficiency. Raise any potential bottlenecks or delays with colleagues and the editor-in-chief.
  • Work closely with the audience team, using audience insights to improve storytelling, sharpen framing and drive engagement and newsletter subscription.
  • Track project and story deadlines and progress in Asana and build stories in Ghost CMS.
  • Establish co-publication partnerships and maintain existing newsroom relationships.
  • Work closely with the deputy managing editor to deliver projects to time and on budget.
  • Contribute ideas for innovative and effective rollout plans for editions or larger editorial projects.
  • Maintain a list of freelance contributors across the world.
  • Public speaking and contributing to the organization of internal and external events.

Benefits

  • Annual leave and paid public holidays
  • Paid parental leave
  • Phone and communications stipend
  • A commitment to an inclusive and diverse work culture
  • Professional learning and development opportunities
  • Private medical insurance support

How to apply

Candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, and three samples of work that showcase your skills as an editor and your approach to impact production. For each example, include a paragraph to outline what you did and what was achieved. Also send examples of any multimedia projects you’ve worked directly on: social media videos, carousels or interactives. If you are shortlisted for the role, you should expect to receive an editorial test.

We are an equal opportunity employer, and we value diversity of all forms in our newsroom. We encourage people of all backgrounds to apply. You must have work authorization in your current country of residence.

Interested candidates should apply online by August 17. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
