Role Description

  • Help create and lead the Gaming verticals, aligning content strategy with the overall goals of Collider.
  • Liaise with in-house Valnet operations teams on team progress, challenges, and operational needs.
  • Participate in editorial pitch meetings to provide feedback on pitches and maintain editorial focus.
  • Develop and grow Gaming verticals following a content investment strategy, building upon successful content types and topics.
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings to communicate progress on traffic goals, site initiatives, and to provide team support.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with Valnet supervisors to assess bandwidth, track traffic performance, and output initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies for sustained growth within the Gaming spaces.
  • Continuously audit the state of Gaming coverage, identifying areas for improvement or expansion.
  • Propose and implement solutions to achieve ambitious traffic and output targets.
  • Research and identify traffic-driving topics and content type using data from internal and external tools, expanding coverage of Gaming-related topics.
  • Source stories, breaking news, and unique angles for writers and editors to ensure engaging, authoritative content.
  • Maintain and optimize a comprehensive catalog of articles covering a variety of gaming topics.
  • Build and lead a team of skilled writers and editors with a passion for Gaming.
  • Collaborate with HR to identify and onboard new talent, including writers and editors.
  • Manage the development and training of the editorial team to ensure quality and output targets are met.
  • Ensure adherence to Collider’s publication standards, offering regular feedback and performance assessments.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that encourages creativity and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in senior editorial roles (Managing Editor, Deputy Editor, Editor-in-Chief) at digital publications specializing in gaming content.
  • Strong writing, editing and ideation skills.
  • Deep knowledge of the gaming industry, both mainstream and independent, and a passion for the medium.
  • Experience with SEO and analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Ahrefs, among others.
  • Proven experience managing freelance writers and growing a team, with a track record of expanding coverage and driving traffic.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives.
