Role Description

The Vice President of Software Engineering will report to the Chief Technology Officer and own engineering for the Seven Bridges Platform, which includes:

• Architecture, delivery, and production operations.
• Reliability, cost, technical debt, and observability.
• Leading a team primarily in India and a smaller group in Serbia.
• Daily collaboration with stakeholders in various time zones.
• 40% hands-on technical work and 60% people leadership.

Key responsibilities include:

• Owning the technical vision for the platform over the next three years.
• Making architecture decisions of record and leading design reviews.
• Ensuring modern delivery governed by infrastructure-as-code and policy-as-code.
• Owning reliability through SLOs and error budgets.
• Shipping governed AI in the product and applying AI to team processes.
• Building a capable team with the necessary specialist skills.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in software engineering, including leadership of multi-team organizations.
• Experience with distributed-systems and platform architecture ownership at scale.
• Domain depth in scientific or biomedical data platforms.
• Experience delivering inside regulatory boundaries such as FedRAMP or HIPAA.
• Proficiency in reliability and modern delivery engineering.
• Experience with production AI/LLM capability shipped under compliance.
• Track record of setting technical vision for a platform.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.

Requirements

• Knowledge of CWL/WDL/Nextflow, GA4GH standards, FHIR, or OMOP.
• Experience with federated or cross-institutional data access at scale.
• Familiarity with federal program delivery and artifact literacy.
• Architecture depth in inference topology.
• Experience shipping reusable product capability from grant-funded work.
