[Hiring] Tech Lead - Digital Banking Platforms @First Citizens Bank

Role Description

This is a remote role that may only be hired in the following location(s): AZ, NC, TX. We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Technical Lead to help shape the future of our Consumer and Business Digital Banking platform. This role operates at the intersection of software engineering, architecture, platform strategy, and delivery execution. The successful candidate will lead multiple engineering teams in building modern customer experiences powered by composable frontend frameworks, cloud-native technologies, API-first architectures, event-driven systems, and engineering excellence principles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 8 years' experience OR High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent and 12 years' experience in Technical work in Application Development, Server Administration, Information Security, or Engineering
• 10+ years software engineering experience (preferred)
• 5+ years technical leadership experience in banking, fintech, payments, or regulated industries (preferred)
• Experience modernizing large-scale customer-facing digital platforms (preferred)
• Strong communication and executive stakeholder management skills (preferred)

Requirements

• Lead technical direction across multiple Agile product teams delivering customer-facing digital banking capabilities.
• Serve as the primary technical advisor for engineering managers, architects, product leaders, and delivery teams.
• Drive delivery of scalable, resilient, secure, and highly available banking solutions.
• Guide technical roadmaps, platform evolution, and modernization initiatives.
• Conduct architecture reviews, design reviews, and code reviews.
• Mentor engineers and foster engineering ownership and accountability.
• Resolve complex technical challenges spanning multiple domains and teams.
• Champion API-first, event-driven, and domain-oriented architectures.
• Design microservices-based solutions and integration strategies.
• Define target-state capabilities across identity, customer onboarding, customer profile, payments, notifications, entitlements, and digital engagement.
• Partner with enterprise architecture teams to establish long-term platform standards.
• Drive adoption of DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and SRE practices.
• Establish engineering metrics focused on quality, stability, velocity, and customer outcomes.
• Improve reliability, scalability, resiliency, and operational excellence.
