Role Description

One of our top clients, a well-established Japanese company currently undergoing a major digital transformation within one of Japan’s most important and globally influential industries, is looking for an experienced Tech Lead to help develop and scale its next-generation DX SaaS platform. This position will play a critical role in leading the technical direction of a development team, making key architectural decisions, improving engineering quality, and establishing modern AI-assisted development practices.

The successful candidate will combine strong hands-on engineering capabilities with technical leadership, helping the team deliver high-quality software efficiently while adopting modern cloud technologies and AI-driven engineering workflows. Key Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership & Software Architecture
  • Lead the technical direction and engineering decisions of a software development team.
  • Design and review software architecture, system components, and technical solutions.
  • Make critical architectural decisions involving data models, system boundaries, security, and scalability.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and architectural approaches.
  • Ensure software solutions meet performance, reliability, security, and maintainability requirements.
  • Identify architectural risks and propose practical improvements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers.
• Hands-On Software Development
  • Remain actively involved in software design, implementation, testing, and code reviews.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality web applications and cloud-based services.
  • Support engineers in solving complex technical problems.
  • Establish and promote clean coding practices and maintainable software design.
  • Lead by example through hands-on engineering contributions.
  • Help improve the team’s technical capabilities and engineering effectiveness.
• Engineering Quality & Development Standards
  • Establish and improve code review standards, testing strategies, and engineering guidelines.
  • Promote automated testing and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Ensure appropriate logging, monitoring, and metrics are incorporated into software releases.
  • Identify and manage technical debt.
  • Evaluate proof-of-concept solutions and determine whether they are suitable for production deployment or require redesign.
  • Continuously improve software quality, development efficiency, and system reliability.
• AI-Assisted Engineering & Development Automation
  • Introduce and optimize AI-assisted software development workflows.
  • Use AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools in daily engineering activities.
  • Establish processes for reviewing, testing, and validating AI-generated code.
  • Define team-level standards to maintain software quality when using AI coding agents.
  • Explore AI-assisted workflows for specification development, code generation, automated testing, and code reviews.
  • Help engineers adopt AI-assisted development practices effectively and responsibly.
• Product Collaboration & Delivery
  • Work closely with Product Owners to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Break down complex development work into small, manageable tasks that can be delivered within short release cycles.
  • Support technical estimation, prioritization, and delivery planning.
  • Identify technical risks, dependencies, and potential delivery blockers.
  • Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to engineering and business stakeholders.
  • Constructively challenge requirements and propose better technical approaches when appropriate.
• Engineering Mentorship & Team Development
  • Mentor engineers and support their technical growth.
  • Improve the team’s ability to make sound technical decisions independently.
  • Encourage knowledge sharing, technical discussions, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Promote a culture of ownership, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
  • Help establish development practices that improve team productivity and software quality.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience designing and developing web applications or cloud-based services.
• Proven experience serving as a Technical Lead or equivalent, including responsibility for software architecture and technology selection.
• Strong hands-on programming skills in at least one modern language, such as:
  • TypeScript
  • Go
  • Python
  • Java
  • Kotlin
• Experience building and operating systems on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure.
• Experience establishing or improving automated testing, CI/CD processes, and code review practices.
• Ability to make architectural decisions and guide engineers through complex technical challenges.

Requirements

• Practical experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools in daily development.
• Ability to critically review, test, and validate AI-generated code.
• Experience or capability in establishing team-level processes that ensure the quality of AI-generated software.
• Understanding of how AI-assisted development can improve engineering productivity without compromising software quality.
• Strong technical leadership and decision-making capabilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively with Product Owners, Engineers, and Business stakeholders.
• Experience translating business requirements into technical designs and implementation plans.
• Ability to provide technical guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback.
• Strong ownership, problem-solving skills, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Benefits

• Employment Type: Full-time employee
• Annual Salary: ¥9,000,000 – ¥12,000,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)
• Remote Work: Remote-first within Japan (occasional office attendance may be required)

• Core Time: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
• Standard Working Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (7.5 working hours per day)
• Salary Review: Once per year
• Bonuses: Twice per year (March and September)
