What You'll Own

• High-Performance Data Workflows
  • Build and optimize workflows that run complex mathematical and statistical calculations over datasets of hundreds of thousands of records.
  • Own performance end to end: query plans and indexing in Postgres, batching and parallelism, memory behavior, caching strategy with Redis.
  • Make correctness verifiable.
• Orchestration & Scale
  • Work with technologies that make large workflows dependable: message and queueing systems, workflow orchestration, job scheduling, retries, idempotency, and backpressure.
  • Design for partial failure.
  • Build observability for slow or wrong runs.
• Agentic Tooling for Essentials
  • Build tooling for agents to execute Essentials workflows.
  • Design harnesses that make agent output trustworthy.
  • Provide agents with necessary context.
  • Continuously improve agentic development workflow.
• Raising the Bar on the Essentials Team
  • Partner with the Engineering Manager to set standards for testing, performance, and agentic practice.
  • Improve the testing story for a complex service-based architecture.
  • Mentor through design review, pairing, and code review.

Qualifications

• Staff-level engineer.
• 8+ years of professional hands-on experience.
• Deep experience in complex, distributed, service-based systems.
• Proven performance and scale work.
• Orchestration experience.
• Strong across our stack: Python, Go, Node/JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Postgres, and NoSQL stores.
• Strong end-to-end and integration testing skills.
• A strong agentic development practice.
• High autonomy.
• Cross-team collaboration.
• Best-practice leadership.

Nice to Have

• Hands-on experience building with AI systems.
• Background in statistics, data science, or quantitative analysis.
• Experience in a domain where correctness is non-negotiable.
• Experience working in a large, complex codebase.

• Competitive Compensation: Salary targeted at $180,000 - $200,000 CAD per year.

Role progression

• In the first month: Ramp on the Essentials codebase and contribute at a meaningful level.
• By the third month: Own a significant slice of the performance and scalability problem.
• Around six months in: Own the architecture for scaling and set team standards.

• 30 min phone call with a member of our Talent Team.
• 45-60 min Zoom deep dive with the Hiring Manager.
• 60 min Technical Discussion.
• Take-home assignment.
• 60 min technical interview with a senior engineer.
• 60 min architecture and design discussion.
• 30-min final interview with a Product Executive.
