[Hiring] Software Engineer - JavaScript developer @Circana

Role Description

We are looking for a JavaScript developer with strong, hands-on experience in web scraping, who will design the solution and be involved in the end-to-end development and maintenance of our data collection applications.

• Build large scale, data-centric applications for advanced analysis using JavaScript with NestJS, ORM, solid database knowledge, and a microservices architecture.
• Design and maintain scrapers that collect data reliably from external sources at scale.
• Process terabytes of data daily to determine Key Performance Indicators for customers and deliver mission-critical insights.
• Utilize the latest techniques in data streaming, memory management, parallel execution, distributed messaging, and code optimization.
• Ensure applications are robust, fault-tolerant, and highly accurate.
• Collaborate with other engineers and developers on different layers of the infrastructure.
• Write scrapers and services that are resilient, accurate at high volume, and maintainable.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of demonstrable JavaScript design and development experience using NestJS, ORM, and JavaScript.
• Proven, hands-on experience building production web scrapers in JavaScript, including headless browser automation with Puppeteer.
• DB knowledge is a must, preferably Postgres, including writing queries and query optimization.
• Hands-on experience in building REST APIs.
• Agile Scrum experience required.
• Azure Cloud experience preferred, but proven cloud experience required.
• Demonstrable experience in building software around Design Patterns.
• Hands-on experience in web sockets, microservices, and message brokers.
• Strong command of DOM traversal and HTML parsing using CSS selectors, XPath, or libraries such as Cheerio.
• Experience handling dynamic content, infinite scroll, pagination, authentication flows, and common anti-scraping defenses.
• Familiarity with proxy rotation, user-agent and header management, request throttling, and scheduled collection runs.
• Strong debugging skills, including diagnosing silent scraper failures and gradual data drift.
• Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements.
• Ability to work well with others, learn on the job, and thrive in a dynamic work environment.
• A focus on user-oriented development, supporting services, and end-user satisfaction.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery/Continuous Deployment testing, tooling, and processes.
• Experience with performance and memory tuning using different tools.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Able to communicate in most of the following languages: English, French, Spanish, and/or Portuguese.
• Proven experience managing and coordinating with distributed teams across Europe, India, US, and South Africa.
• Comfortable working cross-matrix on different time zones (India/US).

• Design, build, and maintain scrapers that extract data reliably from complex, JavaScript-rendered websites at scale.
• Monitor scraper health and respond quickly when target sites change structure.
• Handle practical demands of large-scale collection within legal and ethical boundaries.
• Build validation into the extraction pipeline to identify data quality issues before they reach downstream consumers.
