[Hiring] Software Engineer II, Backend (Identity Decisioning) @Affirm

Role Description

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join the Identity Decisioning team, responsible for building backend systems that validate consumer identity in all of Affirm’s products by satisfying regulatory protocols like KYC. The team partners closely with Product, Compliance, Auth, Fraud, and other engineering teams to deliver honest and transparent financial products that help consumers make their purchasing decisions.

What you'll do:

• Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery of your work.
• Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics, participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs.
• Create and monitor metrics to support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts.
• Contribute to a sense of community on your team by engaging in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process.

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems; proficient in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with the building blocks of distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to transform simple problems or business scenarios into solutions that interact with multiple software components, executing by writing clear, well-tested, and extensible code.
• Comfort navigating a large code base, debugging others' code, and providing feedback through code reviews.
• Demonstrated ownership of personal growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

• Base Pay Grade: L
• Equity Grade: 5
• Base pay range per year: CAD $133,000 - $183,000
• This remote role is open only to candidates residing in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.
