Role Description

An established South African business is looking for a software developer who will not only write code, but over time take on technical leadership of the product team. The company builds and maintains systems for the bulk fuel, transport and logistics industry, plus an application that manages operational and financial data for manufacturing plants. The team is small: two directors and two developers. The next phase of the business therefore needs someone who understands the systems, can lead the modernisation, and later mentor a junior developer.

• Develop and maintain C# applications that take over existing VB6 functionality.
• Keep the current database and VB6 system stable while the migration is underway.
• Lead Phase 2: a rewrite of the same application as a modern backend and frontend solution.
• Work with SQL / MariaDB, business rules and ERP-style workflows.
• Build a solid, understandable codebase that a small team can maintain.
• Work closely with the current senior developer (product manager) who knows the customers and the VB6 code.
• Grow into a leadership role over time: standards, prioritisation, and later coaching a junior developer.

Qualifications

• At least five years of professional software development.
• Strong C# and SQL.
• Experience with business systems or ERP — you need to be comfortable with operational processes, not just screens.
• Ability to work independently remotely, communicate clearly, and take ownership.
• Honesty, integrity, respect, and a focus on adding value to customers’ businesses.

Requirements

• HTML, CSS, PHP or other backend experience.
• Legacy conversions, especially VB6 or MariaDB.
• Experience in fuel, logistics, transport or manufacturing.
• Willingness to lead a small development team later.
