[Hiring] Senior Software Engineer I @Samsara

Role Description

The Safety Triage & Insights team builds data-driven safety experiences that surface actionable insights, engage drivers directly, and help fleets focus resources where they matter most. We develop the systems, APIs, and customer-facing products that power safety event review, supervisor workflows, driver analytics, and AI-driven experiences across Samsara’s Safety organization. The team is deeply invested in AI, LLMs, and emerging agentic technologies, enabling rapid iteration and highly personalized, insight-driven user experiences.

As a Sr. Software Engineer I on the team, you will:

• Independently deliver well-scoped customer-facing features and platform capabilities from design and implementation through rollout and follow-through in production.
• Build reliable services, APIs, and web experiences, improving existing systems while shipping new capabilities.
• Contribute to AI-powered workflows and experiences using modern LLM tooling, including evaluation, iteration, and human-in-the-loop patterns.
• Make thoughtful technical tradeoffs across speed, maintainability, scalability, and customer impact.
• Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Design, ML, and platform teams to deliver cohesive customer experiences.
• Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles as we scale globally and across new offices.

Qualifications

• 18 months+ of relevant software engineering experience building, shipping, and operating reliable customer-facing production systems.
• Experience developing features or end-to-end solutions across backend services, APIs, and modern web applications.
• Ability to independently own moderately complex projects or features within a release or two, with strong execution and follow-through.
• Experience writing clean, efficient, maintainable code and reviewing peer code for correctness and clarity.
• Ability to make thoughtful technical tradeoffs across performance, scalability, maintainability, and delivery speed.
• Experience using metrics, logs, tests, or tracing to debug issues, validate releases, and improve reliability.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering and cross-functional partners.
• Experience or demonstrated interest in AI-native development, including LLMs and workflow automation.
• A growth mindset, strong product intuition, and excitement for learning new technologies and building impactful customer experiences.

Requirements

• Experience building and scaling customer-facing AI/LLM-powered products in production environments.
• Experience working across the stack with modern technologies such as Go, GraphQL, TypeScript, React, and AWS.
• Familiarity with observability, rollout practices, and monitoring approaches that improve product reliability and operational excellence.
• Experience operating in fast-paced, highly collaborative environments with distributed teams.
