Role Description

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend systems and data pipelines for large-scale data processing
• Build and support high-performance APIs and data services to reliably transport data to internal and external consumers
• Optimize backend systems for cost, performance, and reliability, making pragmatic engineering trade-offs
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver features that meet business and technical requirements
• Maintain code quality through reviews, documentation, and adherence to best practices
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements for reliability and observability
• Contribute to the architecture and technical strategy for backend services and data infrastructure

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• Proficiency in Python and strong SQL skills
• Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and backend systems at scale
• Familiarity with REST API design and ORM frameworks such as Django or SQLAlchemy
• Hands-on experience with cloud services, particularly AWS (Redshift, Fargate, S3, RDS, IAM, OpenSearch, DynamoDB)
• Ability to work with large, complex datasets and handle imperfect or evolving data requirements
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork
• Preferred: experience in small, high-autonomy teams, database performance tuning, workflow orchestration (Airflow, Step Functions), Terraform, or email verification systems
