[Hiring] Senior Software Engineer @Kismet

YDay - Kismet is hiring a remote Senior Software Engineer. πŸ’Έ Salary: unspecified πŸ“Location: Australia

Role Description

We're hiring a senior engineer who wants to own whole problems, from understanding what's needed through to running it in production. You care about the people using what you build, and you pay close attention to detail:

  • Data models
  • Edge cases
  • How things behave in production

You've built and run systems that real people depend on, and you can move quickly without cutting corners. You measure your work by its impact over time rather than by how much you ship. You check your assumptions, ask for feedback early, and catch your own mistakes before review. When you get feedback, you act on it.

You use AI agents to work faster, and you take full responsibility for the code they produce. You own the outcome as well as the code, including how your work holds up long after release. Priorities shift as the sector and the business change, and you adapt quickly without losing momentum. You're humble, and you're always looking for ways to improve.

We're a high-trust, high-performance team. The team has a lot of freedom, and that freedom is earned through discipline and delivering real results. You set your own schedule, and we don't track hours or presence. What matters is that you deliver what you commit to. You'll make the decisions that matter in your area and own outcomes.

How we work

We keep the team small enough to sit around one table and have lunch together. Engineering, product, design, and data all sit in that group. Everyone is senior and reports directly to the CTO.

There are no layers between you and the work. You talk directly to the people who have the problem, decide what to build, build it, ship it, and see the result. You won't be handed a spec, and your work won't be passed to someone else to finish. What you do is visible, as is its impact on the business and on the people we serve.

We apply the same thinking to our systems and keep as few moving parts as possible. Every new piece of infrastructure is something that can break, so we only add one when a real problem requires it. We value engineers who solve hard problems without adding complexity, and who leave the system simpler than they found it.

Our output grows every quarter without the team growing, because we keep finding ways to work faster through better tooling, better process, and AI agents. We use those tools heavily, and the engineer remains accountable for everything they produce.

What you'll do

You'll own problems end to end. In practice, that means:

  • Understand the problem:
    • A stakeholder brings you an issue, such as a manual process that takes up a lot of the CX team's time or a provider workflow that keeps breaking.
    • You dig in until you find the underlying cause, which is often different from what was first described.
    • Sometimes the right answer is not to build anything.
  • Design and test the solution:
    • You shape an approach, identify the smallest version that solves the real problem, and test it with the people who'll use it before writing production code.
  • Build it, full stack:
    • API, data model, background jobs, web and native app.
    • Our stack is React Native, Remix, AdonisJS, and PostgreSQL on AWS, all in TypeScript.
  • Keep it simple:
    • Any code we write is code we have to maintain.
    • You solve problems with the least complexity that does the job, use what already exists before adding something new, and look for chances to remove code as well as write it.
  • Verify it works:
    • Passing tests is the starting point.
    • You confirm it works for real users, with real data, in the conditions it will actually face.
  • Ship it and measure the impact:
    • You release it, measure what changed, and stay with it until the problem is actually solved.
    • Then you apply what you learned to the next problem.

The details

  • Remote across Australia, Melbourne preferred.
  • We believe high-performing teams are built on strong relationships, so we get together in Melbourne once a month. If you're interstate, we'll fly you in.
  • Living locally makes it easier to spend time with the people you're building for between those visits.
  • We pay at the top end of the market for the right person, with a bonus program and equity through our ESOP.

If this sounds like the right role for you, we'd like to hear from you.
