[Hiring] Senior Software Engineer @Elastic Path

Role Description

Come join us! We’re a small, collaborative team building Elastic Path Composable Commerce, an API-first ecommerce platform used by enterprise brands across the world. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build and maintain the backend microservices that power it. In this remote role, you will work across the full development lifecycle for these services: designing, building, shipping, and supporting them in production.

The team is experienced, close-knit, and welcoming, with backend and frontend engineers, QA, product, and design all working together daily. As a backend engineer, you’ll collaborate across disciplines to keep our systems reliable and scalable, while helping our clients succeed.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain backend API services that power our e-commerce platform.
• Own features end-to-end, from understanding the problem through implementation, testing, release, and production support.
• Ship code continuously through our delivery pipeline, with proper review, testing, and documentation.
• Seek and utilize observability and operational information to make data-driven decisions.
• Write tests at the right layers and debug systematically across systems and services.
• Review code with an eye for patterns, maintainability, and security.
• Plan work for incremental delivery, making sound decisions despite sometimes not yet having the full picture.
• Contribute to design discussions and code reviews with your own perspective.
• Work across teams and with the broader business when the problem calls for it.
• Share knowledge, including documentation, demos, and active participation in designs.
• Spot opportunities to make things better, whether that's code, processes, tooling, or how we work together.

What You Bring

• Around five-plus years building software on cross-functional teams.
• Solid backend engineering experience, having built, shipped, and maintained services in production.
• Experience designing and building REST APIs, including authentication, error handling, caching, and API contracts.
• Ability to write clean, testable code and understand the value of good tests, clear documentation, and thoughtful code review.
• Effective debugging skills across services and comfort in digging into unfamiliar systems.
• Understanding of how your code fits into the broader architecture and balancing speed with quality.
• Productive use of AI tools to explore, implement, and debug.
• Nice-to-haves: ecommerce or B2B product experience, event-driven or message-based architectures, Kubernetes and cloud operations, frontend exposure.
