[Hiring] Senior Software Developer @Reading

Role Description

Really Great Reading is building a new platform that will launch soon! In the meantime, we have assembled a dedicated, agile team—a Tech Lead, a DevOps engineer, and two developers—to ensure the stability, security, and continued evolution of our current RGR application.

As a Senior Software Developer, you will spend the large majority of your time hands-on, building and maintaining features across our stack. You will work closely with our Tech Lead, who sets priorities and reviews work, and collaborate directly with the other developer on the team. As timing and project milestones allow, you will also collaborate with the engineering team building our next-generation platform.

This role is a perfect fit for an experienced engineer who thrives on ownership, ships dependable and highly secure production code, and excels at structured, written communication in a fully remote environment. While this is a fully remote position, we have a strong preference for candidates who reside in Quebec.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of full-stack software development experience.
• Strong command of Python back-end development (Django, Django REST Framework, Celery).
• Strong command of React front-end development with TypeScript and Redux.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, REST APIs, and OAuth2 / JWT authentication.
• Comfort with Docker, AWS (S3, Lambda), and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with asynchronous and real-time architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, WebSockets, Redis).
• Excellent written communication and strong autonomy in a 100% remote environment.

Requirements

• Experience mentoring or supporting other developers.
• Experience in education or educational technology (EdTech).
• Multimedia streaming (Video.js, dash.js, Vimeo), animations (Rive, Lottie, GSAP), and generative AI (OpenAI).
• Document generation and image/video processing (WeasyPrint, Pillow, OpenCV).
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Terraform, or Kubernetes.
• French–English bilingualism; familiarity with FERPA, COPPA, or SOC 2.
