Role Description

• Design, build, and maintain backend and frontend features on Adobe Commerce supporting subscription renewals, specialty-line renewals, and related billing workflows.
• Digitize existing manual/paper-based renewal processes into automated, self-service digital workflows.
• Develop and maintain integrations between Adobe Commerce and subscription billing, CRM, ERP, and payment/tax systems used by the renewals business.
• Partner with product managers and business stakeholders to translate renewal business rules (proration, grace periods, auto-renew, cancellations, win-backs) into reliable platform logic.
• Write clean, well-tested PHP and JavaScript code - following TDD practices - and maintain strong unit/integration/functional test coverage for renewal and billing logic.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to renewal processing, billing cycles, and order/subscription data integrity; support CI/CD pipelines and deployment activities.
• Contribute to technical design discussions, estimation, and sprint planning within an Agile team, and help enforce coding standards and Adobe Commerce best practices across the renewal's codebase.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant hands-on work with Adobe Commerce / Magento 2.x (Open Source or Commerce edition) in an enterprise environment.
• Strong PHP development skills, including Magento's module/plugin architecture, dependency injection, and service contracts.
• Proven experience integrating Adobe Commerce with external systems via REST/GraphQL/SOAP APIs, message queues (RabbitMQ), and webhooks.
• Solid understanding of RDBMS (MySQL/MariaDB) including query optimization for high-volume catalog and order data.
• Strong commitment to Test-Driven Development (TDD) comfortable writing and maintaining unit, integration, and functional tests (PHPUnit; MFTF familiarity a plus) as a standard part of the development workflow.
• Experience with Git, Composer, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized development (Docker) in a team setting, with solid code review discipline and adherence to Adobe Commerce coding standards.
• Familiarity with cloud-hosted Adobe Commerce environments (Adobe Commerce Cloud, AWS, or Azure), along with supporting infrastructure such as Redis caching, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and Fastly or similar CDN.
• Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum teams - participating in sprint planning, estimation, and stand-ups, and collaborating cross-functionally with QA, product, and other engineers.
• Experience with subscription/recurring billing concepts (proration, dunning, renewal cycles, auto-renew logic) ideally hands-on with a subscription or billing platform (e.g., Zuora, Recurly, or custom Magento subscription modules).
• Experience building or maintaining customer self-service portals/account areas within Adobe Commerce.
• Solid frontend skills (JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3) and experience with Magento's frontend layer (Knockout.js, React, or a headless/PWA frontend).
• Comfort working with complex business rules around entitlements, grace periods, and renewal lifecycles, and translating them into well-tested platform logic.

Requirements

• Experience in insurance, legal, tax, compliance, or other subscription-heavy B2B/B2G industries.
• Exposure to digitization initiatives (replacing paper renewal processes with digital workflows).
• Experience tuning performance for high-transaction-volume periods (renewal season), including API-level load testing.
• Familiarity with CRM platforms such as Salesforce and their integration patterns with Adobe Commerce.
• Adobe Commerce Developer Professional or Expert Certification.
• Exposure to microservices architecture and API-led integration patterns.
• Experience with performance monitoring and profiling tools such as New Relic or Blackfire.
• Comfort mentoring other developers and contributing to engineering best practices and coding standards beyond your own feature work.
