[Hiring] Senior Engineer, Application Systems Development @Shure

Role Description

Shure's Cloud Software Engineering team builds the systems that connect our audio products to the people and platforms that depend on them. We're looking for an experienced engineer who is comfortable working across system boundaries and taking ownership of problems that do not arrive neatly packaged. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll:

• Write and review code.
• Design systems and debug difficult problems.
• Mentor other engineers.
• Help the team make better technical decisions.
• Create momentum around unclear problems and drive them toward good outcomes.

This role is remote, reporting to our Niles, IL HQ office.

Responsibilities

• Own complex features and technical problems across the system, including cloud services, APIs, event-driven systems, web applications, IoT infrastructure, and occasionally the device edge.
• Turn loosely defined product or customer needs into technically detailed solutions.
• Exercise sound product and engineering judgment to look for elegant solutions and reduce unnecessary complexity.
• Lead technical work through influence rather than authority.
• Raise the effectiveness of the engineers around you through thoughtful code and design reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
• Work closely with Product, QA, firmware, security, operations, and other engineering teams.
• Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Build software that can be operated successfully in the real world, considering observability, failure modes, security, performance, cost, maintainability, and deployment strategy.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of our architecture, development practices, tooling, and engineering culture.

Qualifications

• A BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
• 6+ years professional software engineering experience with a track record of independently owning substantial technical problems.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to become productive in unfamiliar technologies.
• Experience designing, building, and operating production distributed systems or cloud applications.
• Sound technical judgment with the ability to distinguish essential complexity from accidental complexity.
• Demonstrated ownership and initiative, with the ability to identify problems and drive work forward.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability and willingness to remain hands-on while helping other engineers succeed.
• Strong debugging and systems-thinking skills.

Requirements

• Experience with AWS or comparable public cloud platforms, particularly cloud-native architectures.
• Knowledge of IoT or connected-device systems.
• Production experience with TypeScript, Node.js, or comparable modern application-development technologies.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and asynchronous workflows.
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code and automated cloud infrastructure management.
• Experience with customer-facing surfaces, such as modern front-end frameworks and API design.
• Knowledge of production observability, incident investigation, and operational troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with embedded C or C++.
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading small groups or technical initiatives.
