Role Description

Southwest Airlines is looking for a highly experienced, hands-on Cloud Developer with a strong development background and deep AWS expertise. This is a true hands-on developer position working in the cloud. Candidates must be comfortable actively developing, coding, troubleshooting, and working with cloud technologies. Very senior-level developers, as well as Leads and Architects who are still genuinely hands-on, can be considered.

This role is focused heavily on talent and candidate quality rather than rate. High-quality candidates with strong, long-term experience working in the United States are strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of hands-on AWS Cloud Engineering experience
• Target candidates with 14+ years of overall experience
• Very senior-level developers are strongly preferred
• Candidates with around 10 years of experience may be considered in some cases
• At least 10 years of professional experience working in the USA is strongly preferred
• Strong, genuine hands-on development background
• Previous experience as a Java Developer or strong Java development experience earlier in their career
• Typically 5+ years of Python development experience; more is preferred
• Extensive and recent AWS Cloud experience
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS Lambda — this is extremely important
• Experience with Terraform
• Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• System Design knowledge
• Experience with Kafka
• Experience with API Development
• Experience with Amazon CloudWatch
• Experience with AWS Step Functions
• Strong foundation in cloud technologies
• Proficiency in Python and Java
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Requirements

• Candidates should have strong experience working in AWS cloud environments, including:
• AWS
• AWS Lambda
• AWS Step Functions
• Terraform
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• CloudWatch
• Kafka
• API Development
• Cloud architecture and system design
• Cloud troubleshooting
• AWS experience should be recent and substantial.
• Azure experience is not the focus for this position.
