[Hiring] Senior Android Engineer @Medium

Role Description

We're looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer to help build and evolve the Android experience that millions of readers and writers rely on every day. You'll own Android features end to end, which means:

• Understanding the problem, building it, shipping it, and seeing how it actually performs.
• Shaping what gets built, not just how it gets built.
• Writing idiomatic, well-tested Kotlin and Compose UI that fits naturally into the team's existing architecture.
• Working directly with iOS, web, or backend engineers depending on what a feature needs.
• Partnering with our leadership team, design team, and engineers in the US and France.
• Bringing superb judgment to ambiguous requests.
• Owning shaping product and feature spaces.
• Helping raise the bar for the mobile team on code quality, testing, and product thinking.
• Attending Medium's twice-yearly, in-person offsites (hosted in locations around the U.S.).

Qualifications

• Several years of experience building production Android apps.
• Fluent in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, coroutines, Flow, and modern Android architecture.
• Expertise in Android engineering and competence in at least one other platform (web, iOS, or backend).
• Ability to think like a product engineer and understand the impact of your work.
• Experience working closely with designers and engineers on other platforms.
• Good instincts about systems, adaptability, and eagerness to learn.
• Ability to push forward in ambiguity and make great trade-off decisions.

Requirements

• Experience using AI to improve a team's leverage, reach, output, and impact (nice to have).
• Ownership of product direction rather than just executing someone else's plan (nice to have).
• Personal use of Medium and excitement to contribute to its mission (nice to have).
