Role Description

The Professional Services Engineer is a customer-embedded services delivery professional responsible for the deployment, implementation, and optimization of Maia Foundation platform, driving adoption, solving complex technical challenges, and enablement of Maia agentic AI capabilities. The PSE leads the technical deployment and implementation of the Maia Foundation platform by architecting production-grade integrations and distributed data systems that transform legacy ETL workflows into modern, autonomous data pipelines.

This role is based in Sydney, Australia. While the position is remote, we're looking for someone located in-region to support our customers and build our presence as the region becomes an increasingly important growth market for Matillion.

What you will be doing

• Own the deployment:
  • Architect and implement production-grade integrations and distributed data systems for enterprise customers, using Python, SQL, and modern API development.
• Modernise legacy data:
  • Transform legacy ETL/ELT workflows into modern, autonomous data pipelines, working across cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP) and Kubernetes.
• Build with AI, not just for it:
  • Integrate AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and use AI code generation tools to accelerate delivery and enable Maia's agentic capabilities.
• Deliver at pace:
  • Take technical solutions from kickoff to production within an 8-12 week Accelerator window, owning outcomes even when the path isn't straightforward.
• Move between altitudes:
  • Alternate between deep technical problem-solving and strategic alignment conversations with customer executives.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience building production-grade software, with strong programming ability in Python, SQL, and API development or equivalent.
• Data engineering background: Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools, gained as a Data Engineer, DBA, or similar.
• Data architecture depth: Strong grasp of data architecture and data structures, with the ability to assess and redesign customer data environments as part of a migration.
• Comfortable wearing multiple hats: Ready to flex across technical delivery, customer communication, and (initially, in newer markets like Sydney) commercial support until dedicated resources are in place.
• Delivery under pressure: Track record of completing migration and deployment outcomes to a defined timeline, working directly with customer stakeholders.
