Role Overview
As a Principal Mobile Engineer, you will be the most senior technical leader and architect for the Peerspace mobile platform. You are a "force multiplier" who will define the long-term vision and technical strategy for our React Native application across both iOS and Android. Reporting to the Sr. Engineering Manager, you will operate as the chief architect and subject matter expert for our mobile ecosystem.
Your focus will be on driving excellence across the entire mobile development lifecycle, from technical design to delivery. You will be the primary owner responsible for our mobile architecture, performance, stability, and developer experience. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, requiring you to mentor senior engineers, set the technical roadmap, and solve our most complex mobile-specific challenges.
Qualifications:
You are a great fit for this role if you have:
β Experience: 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a significant focus on mobile development and a proven track record of architecting and scaling large-scale mobile applications.
β Technical Expertise:
β Expert-level knowledge of barebones React Native and Expo and their ecosystems.
β Deep understanding of the native iOS (Swift/Objective-C) and Android (Kotlin/Java) ecosystems, including native build tools, store submission processes, and bridging native modules.
β Proven experience in mobile-specific performance optimization (e.g., startup time, bundle size, memory usage, and perceived performance) and maintaining large scale production apps.
β Mastery of mobile architecture, including state management, navigation, event-driven architecture and creating reusable, high-quality components.
β Solid understanding of functional programming principles including pure functions, single-responsibility, and immutability etc.
β Operational Excellence: A strong passion for developer experience, including improving build times, CI/CD pipelines (e.g., CircleCI, Fastlane), and automated testing.
β Stability & Observability: Deep familiarity with mobile observability, crash reporting, and stability management (e.g., Datadog, Sentry, Bugsnag).
β Leadership: A history of mentoring senior engineers, influencing and driving technical roadmaps, and making high-stakes architectural decisions. You can clearly communicate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for:
β Architecture & Vision: Define and own the long-term technical vision and architecture for the Peerspace React Native platform, ensuring it is scalable, maintainable, and performant.
β Performance & Stability: Establish and enforce best practices for mobile performance and stability. You will lead the effort to monitor, triage, and eliminate crashes and performance bottlenecks.
β Feature Parity & Maintenance: Develop strategies to ensure consistent, high-quality feature parity across platforms while overseeing ongoing maintenance of the mobile application.
β Developer Experience: Partner with our Platform Engineering group to ensure the mobile developer experience is "flow-like and impactful," optimizing build, test, and release cycles.
β Technical Leadership: Mentor and level up Senior and Staff engineers on the mobile team. You will lead by example through design reviews, code reviews, and prototyping complex solutions.
β Innovation: Drive innovation by developing proof of concepts, leveraging platform-specific capability and evaluating new technologies, libraries, and patterns (e.g., new React Native architecture, native modules) to keep our platform modern and efficient.

The annual salary range for this role is $180,000-$210,000. The actual salary will vary depending on experience, skills, and abilities as well as internal equity and market data.
