[Hiring] Lead Flutter Engineer @Upscrolled

Role Description

We’re hiring a technical leader on the UpScrolled engineering team. UpScrolled is building a next-generation social media platform designed for a mobile-first world — and the mobile application is the core of our product. You will own and drive the architecture, development, and technical direction of our Flutter-based mobile application.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will collaborate with and mentor engineers from day one while establishing scalable architecture, engineering standards, and mobile best practices. You won’t just ship features — you will define the mobile foundation of a new social platform.

What You’ll Do

• Architect and lead development of the Flutter mobile app across iOS and Android
• Establish scalable and maintainable mobile architecture, coding standards, and engineering best practices
• Conduct code reviews and mentor other engineers on the mobile team
• Drive performance optimization for feed-heavy, content-driven experiences
• Build and ship core social media features — real-time interactions, high-performance content feeds, pixel-perfect UI
• Integrate with backend services built in Node.js and .NET
• Establish automated testing strategies including unit, widget, and integration testing for Flutter
• Improve release workflows across TestFlight, Play Store, and staged rollouts
• Collaborate closely with product and design to shape the mobile experience

Technical Expertise

• Mobile Development
• Flutter & Dart (3+ years hands-on, production experience required)
• State management: Bloc, Riverpod, Provider, or equivalent
• Clean Architecture / MVVM patterns
• REST APIs, GraphQL, and real-time communication
• Mobile performance optimization
• Testing & Release
• End-to-end and integration testing: Flutter’s integration_test, Patrol, Appium, or similar
• Release workflows: TestFlight, Play Store, staged rollouts
• Mobile CI/CD pipelines

Nice to Have

• Experience building social media or content-heavy applications
• Experience with analytics, crash reporting, and performance monitoring tools

What Success Looks Like

• A scalable, maintainable mobile architecture is in place and actively being iterated on
• Automated test coverage is growing with every release and the quality bar is high
• Engineers on the mobile team are better for having worked with you
• The mobile app is shipping smoothly, with clear release processes and minimal regressions

What You Are

• 10+ years of mobile engineering experience with 3+ years of hands-on Flutter and Dart
• Experienced architecting and scaling production mobile applications
• Someone who has mentored or led engineers and takes that responsibility seriously
• Experienced working in fast-paced startup environments and comfortable with ambiguity
• A strong communicator who can collaborate effectively across time zones

What You Are Not

• Someone who only wants to write code and isn’t interested in setting the technical direction for a team
• Someone who needs a fully defined architecture before they can begin building
• Someone who treats testing and release processes as someone else’s problem

Compensation

• Netherlands, Ireland, UK, Germany: 81,499€/72,515GBP
• Spain, Portugal, Poland: 62,911€
• We hire in all European countries and are also open to candidates in Tunisia, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Egypt, and Kenya willing to work CET time zone hours.
