Role Description

Reporting to the Data and Technology Manager, the IT Automation Engineer supports the mission of OII by designing, implementing, and maintaining automated workflows and secure system integrations that improve the efficiency, reliability, and interoperability of the agencyโ€™s digital platforms. This role develops automation using Microsoft Power Platform, manages workflow orchestration, and maintains integrations between cloud services, content management systems, and specialized investigative technology platforms.

The position is critical to enabling secure information exchange, modernizing agency operations, and ensuring that systems operate reliably and in compliance with CJIS and other state and federal data security requirements.

  • Workflow Automation Development & Platform Administration
    • Design, implement, and maintain automated workflows that improve operational efficiency and reduce manual processes across agency systems.
    • Develop workflow automation using Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate) and related cloud automation services.
    • Monitor and maintain automation processes, resolving workflow issues and continuously improving reliability and performance.
    • Document automation architecture, workflows, and operational procedures to support maintainability and audit readiness.
  • Cloud Integration & Data Pipeline Management
    • Design and maintain secure integrations between cloud platforms, SaaS applications, and internal systems using APIs and integration services.
    • Build and maintain automated data pipelines that move and synchronize data between operational systems, document management platforms, and analytics tools.
    • Ensure integrations support reliable system interoperability while meeting agency security and data governance standards.
  • Content & Document Management Systems
    • Administer and support the agencyโ€™s content and document management platforms.
    • Develop automated document routing, approval workflows, and records management processes.
    • Ensure document management systems support secure information sharing and comply with state records retention and compliance requirements.
  • Third-Party Platform Integration & Administration
    • Administer and support specialized agency platforms, including investigative technology systems, case management systems, and digital evidence platforms.
    • Maintain integrations between third-party platforms and systems to enable secure and reliable information exchange.
    • Coordinate with vendors and internal technology teams to troubleshoot issues and maintain system performance.
  • System Monitoring, Support & Continuous Improvement
    • Monitor the performance of automation workflows, integrations, and platform services.
    • Diagnose and resolve technical issues affecting automation processes and system integrations.
    • Maintain operational documentation and support continuous improvement of automation and integration capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and maintaining automated workflows using Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Automate and related services.
  • Experience developing and managing system integrations using APIs, RESTful services, or middleware, including connections between enterprise systems, cloud platforms, and SaaS applications.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Azure Government, AWS GovCloud, or similar, including system configuration, platform administration, and secure integration.
  • Skill in designing and maintaining automated data workflows and ETL processes using tools such as Azure Data Factory to support data ingestion, transformation, and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, NoSQL, and database administration to manage structured and unstructured operational data across integrated systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues affecting workflow automation, cloud platform integrations, and enterprise data pipelines to ensure operational reliability.

Requirements

  • Microsoft Certifications such as:
    • CJIS Security Awareness Certification or experience working with criminal justice data systems
    • Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203)
    • Power Platform Functional Consultant (PL-200)
    • Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300)
    • Power Platform Developer (PL-400)
    • Power Platform Solution Architect (PL-600)
    • Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104)
    • Developing Solutions for Microsoft Azure (AZ-204)
  • Experience administering or automating Content Management (ECM) platforms such as Laserfiche or similar document management systems.
  • Knowledge of case management systems, digital evidence platforms, and forensic data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with CJIS security policies, role-based access control, and state-specific data privacy laws.
