Role Description

The House Engineering Manager is a hands-on leadership role centered on enablement and delivery. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the House consistently delivers on its commitments by unblocking engineers, maintaining focus, and creating an environment where the team can perform at its highest potential. This is a technical role: you are expected to review engineering work, provide clear technical direction, and contribute to the codebase when needed.

• Team leadership
  • Leading a team of 5 to 10 engineers
  • Driving ceremonies and the day-to-day operations of the team
  • Ensuring team members are unblocked as quickly as possible
  • Responsible for the professional well-being and career development of team members
  • Managing team member performance and providing continuous feedback and mentoring
• Technical leadership
  • Supporting the engineering release process and monitoring deployments
  • Reviewing pull requests thoroughly and providing clear, actionable feedback
  • Leading technical design discussions and ensuring alignment on architecture
  • Driving and owning the technical roadmap of the team
  • AI-Driven mindset required to evolve the team around AI-driven development
• Roadmap & delivery
  • Working closely with the Technical Product Owner and UI/UX Designer
  • Defining, planning, and structuring each sprint
  • Maintaining a house level roadmap aligned with product priorities
  • Balancing sprint commitments with customer-facing responsibilities
  • Following an AI-Driven software development lifecycle
• Day-to-day communication and collaboration
  • Upwards: Communicating clearly with leadership
  • Downwards: Empowering Senior Engineers and coaching team members
  • Sideways: Collaborating effectively with other Houses

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading an engineering team (typically 5+ engineers) in a delivery-focused environment (3+ Years)
• Past experience as a software engineer for at least 5+ years
• Strong hands-on technical background with the ability to review code and guide design decisions
• Experience owning delivery and execution, including sprint planning and backlog management
• AI-Driven mindset, defaulting to AI while ensuring quality and consistency
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and grow engineers
• Strong communication skills
• Experience working in a SaaS, cloud-native, or distributed systems environment

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js (backend services, APIs, real-time systems)
• Strong hands-on experience with React (complex state management, performance optimization)
• Deep understanding of modern web architecture
• Solid experience designing and operating systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Practical experience with Kubernetes (K8s)
• Strong understanding of cloud networking fundamentals
• Clear understanding of network plumbing across clouds and VPCs
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts
• Strong knowledge of system reliability, performance tuning, and production incident management
