Role Description

GAMA-1 is seeking a remote Software Developer Web Applications IV (Senior Full Stack Developer) with experience in research, design, and development of computer and network software or specialized utility programs. The Software Developer Web Applications IV will analyze user needs, develop software solutions, update software, or enhance existing software capabilities. The Software Developer Web Applications IV will be part of a mission-critical team advancing technology for our federal client’s next generation of environmental data. Work is normally performed in a remote work arrangement.

He/she will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing a web-based frontend for the application in AWS cloud. This senior role will lead the transformation of the traditional client into a modern, responsive web application while ensuring seamless integration with backend meteorological data services and maintaining the sophisticated visualization capabilities essential for weather forecasting operations.

Essential Functions

  • Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine the feasibility of design within time and cost constraints
  • Create, manage, and deploy containers to ensure efficient, consistent, and scalable application operations across various environments
  • Confer with systems analysts, engineers, programmers, and others to design systems and obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces
  • Determine system performance standards
  • Develop or direct software system testing or validation procedures, programming, and documentation
  • Develop and maintain CM processes, plans, policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other documents
  • Architect and implement responsive, intuitive user interfaces for complex meteorological data visualization
  • Develop interactive mapping components and geospatial data rendering capabilities for weather data
  • Create high-performance visualization tools for meteorological datasets (radar, satellite imagery, model data)
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs and GraphQL services to connect frontend with backend data services
  • Optimize web applications for performance across various devices and network conditions
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to implement user-centered design principles for meteorological applications
  • Implement automated testing strategies for frontend applications (unit tests, integration tests, E2E tests)
  • Integrate with AWS services (CloudFront, S3, API Gateway, Lambda, etc.) to create scalable frontend solutions
  • Ensure accessibility compliance and cross-browser compatibility

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of full stack development experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue.js)
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3
  • Experience with frontend build tools and module bundlers (Webpack, Rollup, etc.)
  • Knowledge of state management solutions (Redux, Mobx, Context API)
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and GraphQL
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services for web application hosting
  • Understanding of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks for frontend applications
  • Experience leveraging Generative AI development tools to accelerate and assist in the development process. Knowledge of best practices in GenAI Prompting, development, reviewing generated content.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with geospatial data visualization libraries (Mapbox, Leaflet, OpenLayers)
  • Knowledge of WebGL or Canvas-based rendering for complex visualizations
  • Experience with D3.js or other data visualization libraries
  • Familiarity with meteorological applications
  • Understanding of weather data formats and visualization requirements
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • AWS certifications (Developer Associate, Solutions Architect)
  • Background in scientific or technical application development
  • Familiar with Jira and Confluence and general Agile practices

Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance
