The Provider Digital Technology team is focused on delivering a unified, intuitive digital entry point for UnitedHealthcare providers and partners to access tools, services, and information. We build consistent, secure, and scalable capabilities that simplify how providers discover, navigate, and engage with UHC’s digital ecosystem. By working across UnitedHealthcare and the broader UnitedHealth Group organization, we reduce friction, enhance provider experience, and help advance UHC’s mission to make the health system work better for everyone.


Our team collaborates closely with engineering, platform, and business partners to integrate diverse applications and data sources into a seamless provider experience across Portal, API, EDI, Chat, and Voice channels. We are also advancing the responsible use of AI, including developing digital assistants and chatbots for both chat and voice interactions, always with a focus on safety, compliance, and improving provider workflows. Our work plays a critical role in scaling digital access, supporting the evolving needs of healthcare providers, and enabling faster, more efficient problem-solving across the care delivery ecosystem.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead architecture strategy for Portal, Chat, Voice, and Data platforms, including the responsible adoption of AI/ML capabilities (GenAI, predictive analytics, automation), define target-state architecture, principles, and roadmaps aligned to business outcomes
• Provide end-to-end architectural leadership across design, and operations, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, and reusable
• Apply an AI aware mindset to inform design choices, improve clarity of tradeoffs, and guide teams toward a shared architectural vision
• Use AI tools to accelerate architecture tasks like API review, dependency analysis, and solution documentation
• Lead design reviews, share best practices, and foster a culture focused on simplification, reuse, and responsible innovation
• Ensure operational excellence and production readiness by embedding observability, security, resiliency, performance tuning, disaster recovery, and operational support practices into designs and delivery
• Own the data strategy and reporting/analytics architecture that enables trusted insights for leaders and operations, including standardized reporting practices and a “single version of the truth”
• Design and govern data architecture patterns for reporting and analytics, including multi-tier pipelines (raw → standardized → enriched ) with strong lineage/traceability and modularity
• Establish and drive data governance (roles/processes, metadata, data quality checks, and enforcement/monitoring) to ensure secure, compliant, auditable use of data for analytics and applications
• Lead analytics enablement and reporting delivery architecture, guiding dashboards/visualizations and decision aids that support business priorities and improve efficiency and effectiveness of key processes
• Influence enterprise alignment and standards adoption across architecture communities and delivery teams, helping reduce technical debt and improve consistency and reuse
• Mentor engineers/architects on architecture practices, data strategy patterns, and responsible AI principles to uplift capability and accelerate delivery
• Exercise independent judgment to plan and prioritize architecture and AI/data initiatives, sequencing work across dependencies and ensuring delivery stays aligned to the roadmap

Required Qualifications:

• 9+ years of experience architecting scalable platforms, including portal, APIs, Chat and/bots in cloud hosting
• 7+ years of experience in software solution architecture, with a focus on AI/ML systems
• 5+ years of experience working in healthcare technology ecosystems or familiarity with healthcare data, regulatory constraints, interoperability expectations, or enterprise health environments
• 5+ years of experience driving architectural vision and strategy across cross functional teams
• 3+ years of experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and data integration tools
• 3+ years of experience with driving data and reporting solutions
• 2+ years of experience designing agentic workflows or autonomous systems
• 1+ years of experience with AI/ML concepts including responsible AI principles, multi-agent solutions, generative AI and MCP
• 1+ years of experience with MLOps tools for deploying and managing models in production

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
• 3+ years of experience in the healthcare industry
• 3+ years of experience leading largescale modernization initiatives, interoperability transformations, or platform rationalization efforts

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $134,600 to $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
