Role Description

The Database Architect designs, implements, and optimizes the database architecture that powers Intelerad's medical imaging solutions. This strategic technical leader will be responsible for creating scalable, secure, and high-performance database systems that support our PACS, RIS, and enterprise imaging platforms serving healthcare providers and imaging centers globally. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in database design, data modeling, and performance optimization within large-scale, mission-critical environments where system reliability directly impacts patient care. This role requires balancing technical excellence with business needs, collaborating across engineering, infrastructure, and product teams to ensure our data architecture supports both current operations and future growth in the healthcare IT sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement enterprise-wide database architectures for Intelerad's medical imaging platforms, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive data models, schemas, and database documentation that align with healthcare interoperability standards.
• Establish and enforce database development standards, security protocols, and compliance frameworks to meet healthcare regulations.
• Lead database performance optimization initiatives through query tuning, indexing strategies, and capacity planning.
• Collaborate with software engineering, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to integrate database systems with application architecture.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in database architecture, design, and administration.
• Proven expertise in data modeling, database design patterns, and normalization techniques.
• Strong proficiency in database performance optimization.
• Extensive experience with cloud database platforms and services on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Deep understanding of database security best practices and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and communicate complex technical concepts.

Preferred Qualifications & Special Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Software Engineering.
• Experience with medical imaging systems architecture including PACS, RIS, VNA, or enterprise imaging platforms.
• Hands-on experience with distributed database systems and data replication strategies.
• Proficiency with ETL processes and data integration tools.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
• Professional certifications such as AWS Certified Database Specialty or Oracle Certified Professional.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.

Benefits

• Base pay ranges from $108,750 - $145,000/yr CAD.
• Bonus and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
