[Hiring] Actuarial Developer II/III @The Standard

YDay - The Standard is hiring a remote Actuarial Developer II/III. πŸ’Έ Salary: usd 137,000 - 200,750 per year πŸ“Location: USA

Role Description

The Actuarial Developer designs, builds, and operates the software that powers our actuarial work. In this role you will translate actuarial, financial, and business needs into reliable automated solutions, from design through deployment and will partner across the organization to put data and analysis in the hands of decision-makers. This is a role for someone who wants to push the envelope on AI: we are actively building AI into how we work, and we’re looking to add someone to our team that will be a strong, hands-on adopter that will help the team get more out of the tools & technology we have available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Automated Business Solutions:
    • Design, develop, and deploy analysis software for use by actuarial teams, primarily on Databricks, with SQL and other languages as needed.
    • Work across the full software development lifecycle β€” analysis, design, construction, implementation, and testing β€” and produce solution design specifications others can build from.
    • Integrate with third-party systems such as GGY AXIS, Economic Scenario Generation (ESG) software, and risk modeling systems.
    • Cloud-based computing tools and environments may be used.
  • Financial and Actuarial Analysis:
    • Build and support the software behind actuarial and financial analysis β€” including principles-based modeling, financial forecasting, capital market pricing, and numerical methods used in pricing, valuation, financial reporting, or risk management.
    • Your understanding of these concepts will allow you to translate them into reliable, well-engineered solutions and to collaborate effectively with the actuaries who own the models.
  • Cross Collaboration:
    • Partner effectively with both business and technical colleagues to turn business needs into sound, well-engineered solutions.
    • On the business side, work closely with actuaries, finance, product, and other end users to understand financial and product data and the decisions it supports.
    • On the technical side, collaborate with IT, data, architecture, and fellow developers to align on standards, integration, and delivery.
    • Communicate clearly across both audiences, and present data and analysis that provides guidance and influences decision-making.
  • Lead with AI:
    • Make heavy, everyday use of AI and generative-AI tools (such as coding assistants and large language models) a default part of how you work β€” for development, analysis, testing, and documentation.
    • Continually look for new ways to apply them and raise the bar for the team.
    • You remain fully accountable for the accuracy, quality, and compliance of everything you deliver.
    • Treat AI output as a strong first draft, review and validate it to the same standard as your own work and follow all data-handling and governance policies.
  • Training and Knowledge Transfer:
    • Research new techniques, tools, and practices and share them with a broader audience.
    • Actively train and support others in analysis tools and methods β€” including effective use of AI.
  • Operate Business Solutions:
    • Strengthen solutions through active ownership and use of automated processes.
    • Refine solutions until they are ready for deployment to business users and support them in production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, actuarial science, computer science, business, or related field.
  • Direct experience developing analytical applications and automated data solutions used in actuarial, financial, or business processes is required, including data pipelines, calculation engines, reporting solutions, model integration frameworks, and cloud-based analytical platforms.
  • An actuarial, insurance, risk management, or capital market finance background may be required.
  • Experience producing technical designs, implementation specifications, and solution architecture documentation is preferred.
  • Practical grounding in cost/benefit analysis for solutions is desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new technologies, including AI-enabled development tools, to improve efficiency, quality, and delivery outcomes.
  • Familiarity with accounting under Statutory, U.S. GAAP, or Economic bases is a plus.

Requirements

  • Actuarial Developer II:
    • 5+ years of experience developing analytical or business software solutions.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Databricks and SQL.
    • Able to independently deliver well-defined projects and contribute to technical design activities.
    • Demonstrates curiosity and willingness to leverage AI-enabled development tools to improve productivity, analysis, and solution delivery.
  • Actuarial Developer III:
    • 6+ years of experience developing analytical or business software solutions.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead technical design efforts and deliver complex cross-functional solutions.
    • Highly proficient with Databricks and SQL.
    • Serves as a technical mentor and trusted partner to business stakeholders.
    • Champions adoption of AI-enabled development practices and modern engineering approaches; helps others effectively apply new tools and technologies to improve delivery outcomes.

Benefits

  • A rich benefits package including medical, dental, vision and a 401(k) plan with matching company contributions.
  • An annual incentive bonus plan.
  • Generous paid time off including 11 holidays, 2 wellness days, and 8 volunteer hours annually β€” PTO increases with tenure.
  • A supportive, responsive management approach and opportunities for career growth and advancement.
  • Paid parental leave and adoption/surrogacy assistance.
  • An employee giving program that double matches your donations to eligible nonprofits and schools.
