Role Description
EXPANSIA is seeking a Database Administrator who will be a part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Consolidated Applications and Platform Services (NCAPS) team. NCAPS is a consolidation of current applications to standardize NASA’s IT systems and applications to include general IT, customer support, information management, mission support systems. Bring your expertise to this Agile CI/CD team to safeguard NASA’s Enterprise.
As a Database Administrator III, you will be responsible for support of database systems and applications on a geographically dispersed Enterprise network with multiple types of servers and server applications. You will:
- Implement, optimize, and maintain database systems to ensure seamless business operations, security, and efficiency.
- Manage database performance through index tuning, backup recovery, and integration while enforcing security controls and data integrity.
- Develop stored procedures, formulate policies, and oversee database administration tasks such as scheduling backups, managing replication, and monitoring transaction activity.
- Support database designers and analysts in developing SQL and web-based databases, reviewing technical designs, and implementing high-level reporting systems.
- Regularly interface with both client managers and system users.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with 5 - 7 years of experience, or a Master's with 3 - 5 years of experience
- Oracle, MySQL, or Microsoft SQL Certification
- CompTIA Security + (IAT Level II or greater)
- Depth of knowledge and experience in major relational database systems, languages, and applications, such as Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server, Oracle, and MySQL
- Must demonstrate the ability to pay keen attention to detail, possess a strong customer service orientation, and have the ability to work as part of a team
- Proficiency in SQL commands, stored procedures, and database optimization techniques
- Strong understanding of database security, integrity, and backup recovery processes
- Ability to troubleshoot and independently solve complex technical database challenges
- Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly both written and orally, and present products and ideas in a business-like manner

Key Qualifications
- ITIL v3 – Foundation (preferred)
- SAFE Team certification (preferred)
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) (preferred)
- Oracle (OCP, OCA) or MySQL Database Certification (preferred)
- Automation using Microsoft PowerShell, VBScript, or batch files (preferred)
- Adaptable to changing circumstances and operational needs (preferred)
- Experience working in VmWareESXi environments (preferred)
- Experience with network storage (SAN/NAS) (preferred)
- Experience with enterprise backup solutions (preferred)
