[Hiring] Senior Sales Engineer - DevTools @Perforce

5d ago - Perforce is hiring a remote Senior Sales Engineer - DevTools. πŸ’Έ Salary: $165,000 - $175,750 πŸ“Location: USA, Canada

Role Description

The DevTools Business Unit at Perforce is searching for a highly skilled engineer to join our technical sales team serving the North American East region. This is a senior position that partners with aligned account executive(s) to prove the value of our products, serving as the technical liaison between prospective customers and various internal product, marketing, and delivery teams.

This role requires a unique combination of technical skill and business acumen. The successful candidate will gain direct exposure to top shelf developer productivity tools, enterprise infrastructure solutions, and cutting edge open source software implementations.

We are looking for an individual who loves software, views technology as a lifestyle, and has a passion for Java, C/C++, and open source. As a member of this team you'll engage throughout the sales lifecycle, presenting the value of our technical solutions across brands in the DevTools business unit, including Akana, Components, Gliffy, OpenLogic, JRebel, and Zend.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Account Executives across the full sales cycle, from technical discovery and demos through POC trials and proposal support, to prove solution value and close business.
  • Conduct deep discovery to understand customer architecture, workflows, and business objectives; map findings to targeted solutions that demonstrate clear ROI.
  • Design and deliver compelling technical presentations, workshops, and proof-of-concept engagements tailored to both executive and engineering audiences.
  • Serve as the internal champion for the customer, collaborating across Product, Marketing, Support, and Professional Services to surface feedback and shape roadmap and project priorities.
  • Evaluate customer environments and provide architectural guidance on solution fit, implementation approach, risk tradeoffs, and compliance considerations.
  • Contribute to the broader technical community through conference sessions, webinars, blog posts, and open source engagement, including direct participation in relevant projects and communities.
  • Support lead generation and pipeline development alongside territory managers, including trade show participation and introductory technical sessions.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent; 5+ years in a customer-facing technical role (pre-sales, solutions engineering, professional services delivery, or technical support leadership).
  • Hands-on experience with Java and/or C/C++ enterprise development; comfort reasoning about performance, build toolchains, debugging complex systems, and build acceleration tools such as JRebel.
  • Strong Linux background with solid understanding of the enterprise Linux ecosystem, including upstream/downstream repo hierarchy, distro differences (RHEL/Rocky/Debian/SLES), and on-prem vs. cloud vs. hybrid deployment patterns.
  • Demonstrable experience with open source software adoption and support, including active community participation via code, documentation, or presentations; familiarity with CNCF technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Redis, Vault) and middleware stacks (e.g., Tomcat, ActiveMQ, Apache Camel) is a strong plus.
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, etc.); understanding of cloud-native architecture, resource deployment models, and hybrid/bare-metal tradeoffs.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Ansible, Terraform, Nexus/Artifactory).
  • Proficiency with containerization and virtualization at meaningful scale (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, OpenShift; Vagrant, KVM/QEMU, Proxmox).
  • Familiarity with HPC, scientific computing, or performance engineering use cases, including advanced debugging tools such as TotalView and foundational libraries for machine learning and predictive analytics, is a meaningful differentiator.
  • A strong textbook understanding of both SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra) and situational awareness of where each fits; practical experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to mixed audiences, with strong demo skills, confident written communication, and experience authoring technical proposals or RFP responses.
  • A genuine passion for helping developers succeed, with awareness of how AI-assisted development workflows, advanced tooling, and productivity platforms translate into measurable team outcomes; self-directed and adaptable, comfortable ramping quickly on new technologies and operating across time zones in a distributed team environment.

Requirements

  • $175,750 - $219,687 a year
  • The base pay range targeted for this role is $165,000 - $175,750 USD. This position is eligible for the Sales Engineering Commission Plan.
  • This position is eligible for benefits including, but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, retirement benefits, life insurance, wellness programs, total time off, and other employee perks that may be offered by Perforce from time to time.
  • The actual offer will depend on a number of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s education, skills, qualifications, depth of experience and other relevant business considerations.
  • Perforce reserves the right to amend or modify employee perks and benefits at any time.
  • All employees are expected to demonstrate AI fluency appropriate to their role and level, including responsible use of AI tools, sound judgment, and adherence to company AI governance and security policy standards.

Benefits

  • Come work with us! Our team members are valued for their contributions, introduced to new opportunities, and rewarded well.
  • Perforce combines the experience and rewards of a start-up with the security of an established and privately held profitable company.
