Role Description
Our client is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial Senior Freight Broker to manage, transition, and expand a dedicated book of business. In this Cradle-to-Grave brokerage role, you will take complete ownership of the freight lifecycle—driving shipper business development, spot/contract pricing, carrier procurement, load tracking, and long-term account retention.
This is a senior-level, revenue-generating position designed for an established domestic 3PL logistics professional with proven market relationships who thrives on autonomy, competitive margins, and uncapped commission potential.
Key Responsibilities
-
Own the entire sales and operations pipeline—from prospecting and onboarding new shippers to everyday freight execution and account retention.
-
Analyze spot market dynamics and regional capacity trends to negotiate competitive shipper pricing while protecting gross margins and profitability targets.
-
Act as the primary strategic partner for client shipping managers, identifying expansion opportunities across multiple freight lanes.
-
Source, vet, and negotiate rates with trusted motor carriers across Full Truckload (FTL), LTL, and specialized domestic modes.
-
Manage daily load scheduling, dispatching, track-and-trace monitoring, and carrier compliance from pickup through final delivery.
-
Proactively manage service disruptions, transit delays, detention, and freight claims with rapid, professional problem-solving.
-
Consistently meet or exceed monthly gross margin, revenue volume, and shipment count targets.
Qualifications
-
5+ years of direct, full-cycle freight brokerage experience within a domestic 3PL environment.
-
A proven, transferable shipper book capable of generating a minimum monthly revenue (or equivalent proven gross profit margin run rate).
-
Demonstrated history of simultaneously driving sales acquisition and managing operational execution.
-
Comprehensive understanding of the North American freight market, seasonal capacity swings, and carrier pricing structures.
-
Hands-on expertise across major domestic modes (Dry Van, Reefer, Flatbed, and/or LTL).
-
Working proficiency with modern Transportation Management Systems (TMS platforms) and major digital load boards (DAT, Truckstop, etc.).
-
Entrepreneurial, self-directed work ethic with high personal accountability.
-
Strong negotiation and closing abilities across both shipper and carrier conversations.
-
Excellent verbal, written, and crisis-management communication skills under tight transit deadlines.
