Role Description

Are you an experienced, self-motivated small business lender who enjoys helping local businesses grow and serve their communities? Member Business Financial Services LLC (MBFS) is seeking a Small Business Commercial Lender in the Metropolitan New York area to originate and manage commercial loans ranging from $50,000 to $1,000,000 for our credit union partners. This remote position requires regular in-person business development and relationship meetings throughout the assigned market.

The primary responsibility is to work with prospective customers producing a variety of commercial loans as well as generating a portfolio of business and corresponding relationships, while seeking new accounts through marketing to real estate investors, correspondent lending channels, centers of influence, and other traditional lending channels and referrals. The small business sector is one of the fastest growing segments of the credit union industry with a lot of room for growth.

Working in conjunction with multiple credit unions in the New York/New Jersey area, this position will conduct in-person and remote relationship meetings with prospective clients where opportunities are identified for commercial loan and/or deposit products. This role has day to day responsibility for the delivery of superior customer service, operational integrity and adherence to credit union policy as well as all state and federal regulations. Must be a customer-oriented individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Performance will be evaluated using established goals for qualified pipeline development, commercial loan production, deposit and fee-income generation, application pull-through, timely and accurate loan-package submission, portfolio credit quality, relationship retention, and compliance with required reporting and customer-service standards.
• Ability to work with colleagues and to network with professionals in the community for the purpose of bringing new business members/customers to our credit union partners.
• Develops a network of relationships that will provide opportunities for the development of new members and lending prospects.
• Perform preliminary credit analysis for loan requests from $50,000 to $1,000,000, including review of business and personal tax returns, interim and historical financial statements, debt schedules, personal financial statements, credit reports, collateral information, and ownership or guarantor structure.
• Evaluate repayment capacity, global cash flow, debt-service coverage, leverage, liquidity, collateral support, management experience, and key industry risks.
• Clearly identify strengths, weaknesses, policy exceptions, and information gaps before submitting a complete package to underwriting.
• Provides necessary information to loan underwriters to obtain a full financial evaluation and rating of members and their credit request.
• Develop a presentation of the analysis prepared for delivery to appropriate credit authorities of the credit union.
• Prepares and obtains necessary forms for loan documentation and represents credit union at loan closings.
• Manages portfolio of credit union and meets with existing member business borrowers to evaluate their ongoing business to identify new opportunities or developing problems.
• Works with members and MBFS staff who are experiencing problems resulting in credit delinquency.
• Keeps abreast of new developments in the marketplace as well as changing government regulations.
• Assists in the formation of workout plans and collection of past due loans for substandard members.
• Monitors existing loan portfolio to maintain a high‑quality asset base.
• Maintains up‑to‑date member files including current balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash flow projections and all loan documentation.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience in commercial lending, business banking, or relationship management within financial services
• Bi-Lingual in Spanish highly preferred
• Strong financial analysis, credit structuring, and portfolio management skills
• Proven ability to develop business and manage client relationships
• Understanding of credit union philosophy and member-focused service is a plus
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management abilities
• Knowledge of commercial loan documentation and regulatory guidelines preferred
