Role Description

The Sales Engineer (SE) is a technical sales support position responsible for arranging pre-sales engagement to current and prospective clients. The position requires a strong technical leader who understands how their decisions impact and influence the customer’s bottom line while driving revenue for Commvault.

The SE must be seen as a trusted advisor at all levels within an account (C-Suite, technical partners, etc.), as well as be a team leader, mentor, guide, and chip into overall success of Commvault. The SE drives or supports complicated sales opportunities by:

  • Translating business requirements into solution technical requirements.
  • Coordinating technical expertise.
  • Sizing, defining delivery and deployment approach, timeline, and required resources.
  • Coordinating demonstrations and proof-of-concept.
  • Supporting internal deal acceptance.

Candidates must live in the Bay Area to be considered for this position.

What you’ll do:

  • Work as part of the account team to formulate and produce territory plans, account strategies, and sales plans.
  • Anticipate technology trends and build positive relationships with external partners and internal departments.
  • Engage with senior level IT leadership to qualify and understand key issues that can be addressed with Commvault products.
  • Establish relationships with technical decision makers and drive detailed Technical Account Plans.
  • Distill pre-sales discovery into a concise message outlining inefficiencies/challenges addressed by Commvault.
  • Collaborate with the creation and presentation of a case to business sponsors in support of the Commvault solution.
  • Propose and demonstrate Commvault products through various methods (presentations, demos, etc.).
  • Participate in all Sales and regional meetings, contributing technical leadership on all topics.
  • Provide technical expertise and enablement support for channel and alliance partners.
  • Continuously develop and maintain technical and market expertise through training and certifications.
  • Keep senior management informed of key issues and changes impacting business results.
  • Assist with potential product or process improvements and participate in formulating innovative solutions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in the software or storage industry; 3+ years of proven experience in a pre-sales sales engineer role.
  • Demonstrates solid experience delivering, presenting, and supporting assigned Enterprise/Commercial Clients.
  • Strong competitive knowledge.
  • Proven experience selling, conducting Proof of Concept, and architecting data management solutions.
  • Experience in a rapid growth environment with continuously updated priorities.
  • Basic knowledge of common Software licensing practices.
  • Specialized knowledge/skills with at least one major open systems operating system, hypervisor, or cloud.
  • Enterprise application exposure or knowledge of SAP, Oracle, Exchange, db2, SharePoint, etc.
  • Solid knowledge of infrastructure technologies such as storage, servers, networking, cloud, hyper-convergence.
  • Strong consultative selling skills with product expertise and business foresight.
  • Success managing a minimum of three major accounts (Fortune 500-1000).
  • Ability to work in an organized manner using tools like Salesforce.com.
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Sales methodology experience (MEDDIC, TAS, SPIN, Solution Selling, Challenger, etc.).
  • Able to work remotely and autonomously.
  • Travel up to 50%.
