Role Description
This role involves leading a team of production underwriters with specialized construction expertise within Nationwide’s Property and Casualty team. The Director reports directly to the Sr AVP and is responsible for the Western book of business, which spans from the Midwest to the West Coast. This is a remote/WFH role, requiring travel at least quarterly but ideally on a monthly basis.
- Lead a team of Construction Services Territory Managers and Field Underwriters.
- Build and maintain business relationships with agencies and/or brokers.
- Focus on portfolio analysis, relationship management, and account management.
- Monitor market conditions and confirm information gathered within the market space.
- Research risk, environment, and other factors to win accounts.
- Establish research objectives and standards for the department.
- Analyze performance of portfolio and develop actions to drive profitable growth.
- Direct pricing standards and practices.
- Communicate strategic direction and operational plans to internal associates and external partners.
- Develop and maintain strong business relationships within the commercial line market.
- Supervise associate management including performance and training.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Relevant professional designation such as CPCU or CIC is preferred.
- Ten years of commercial line underwriting, sales, marketing, and agency management experience preferred.
- Significant business management and people leadership experience preferred.
Requirements
- Requires sophisticated knowledge of property/casualty insurance operations and products.
- Requires extensive knowledge of commercial property/casualty cases and best underwriting practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to set work priorities and recommend solutions to upper management.
- Demonstrated decision-making ability required in day-to-day operations.
- Strong drive for results.
