[Hiring] Senior Research Specialist/State Lead @Princeton University

Role Description

BDI seeks a Senior Research Specialist/State Lead in Ohio to work in and across various projects focusing on political violence monitoring and state-based partnerships.

• Develop state-based research, monitoring, and analysis around incidents of political violence.
• Build BDI’s state-based partnerships with key stakeholders across various sectors.
• Engage in state-based coordination tables and coalitions.
• Provide customized public and private briefings on state-level risks and trends.
• Build connections with organizations supporting vulnerable communities.
• Collaborate with the broader BDI team to connect state-level work with national efforts.
• Key deliverables include regular SitRep production, building relationships, and other research products.

Qualifications

• Must live in Ohio or an adjacent state.
• Significant state-specific knowledge, networks, and experience in Ohio.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
• 5-7+ years of experience in research, policy, or community engagement.
• Research experience focused on the U.S. political violence landscape.
• Ability to think strategically around quantitative and qualitative data.
• Excellent writing abilities, especially in policy-focused documents.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse teams.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with various social media platforms.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in a relevant field (preferred).
• Expertise in conducting OSINT monitoring.
• Familiarity with ACLED data or other relevant quantitative data sources.
• Interest in translating research findings to policy audiences.
• Experience working on a remote team.
• Familiarity with common research tools.
• Experience with spatial analysis and data visualization.
• Experience developing datasets and ensuring data integrity.
• Experience with HTML/CSS, Python, or other programming languages.
• Experience with time series and event data analysis.

Salary Range

$80,000 to $90,000
