Role Description

SCWIST is seeking a strategic and equity-driven Project Manager to lead initiatives in our Policy, Advocacy, and Research team. The initiatives include:

  • STEM Together, a national research and training initiative funded through the Skills for Success program
  • System Change initiative fund through WAGE
  • Youth National STEM Expo

In partnership with key stakeholders, these projects explore systemic barriers in STEM employment while providing targeted skills training for underrepresented groups including girls, women, and gender-diverse individuals who are Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQI+, or newcomers.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic project manager with a talent for guiding complex work plans to fruition, fostering strong, relational partnerships, and ensuring projects are delivered with care, accountability, and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate momentum through collaboration, partnership, and strategic alignment.
  • Maintain regular communication with stakeholders, partners, and SCWIST team members to report on milestones and share updates.
  • Foster strong collaboration with project partners to support seamless implementation and achievement of shared outcomes.
  • Establish and manage detailed work plans and schedules to ensure effective sequencing and resource allocation for all project activities.
  • Oversee project execution in alignment with approved plans, ensuring that files and documentation are securely maintained.
  • Collaborate with SCWIST staff and project partners to develop high-level project documents, including work plans, implementation timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Monitor and track progress of internal activities and partner contributions through regular meetings and reporting systems, adjusting plans as needed to meet project goals.
  • Manage the implementation of research projects, coordinating activities from project scoping and study planning through participant engagement, data collection, analysis, and reporting in collaboration with the research team.
  • Provide the research team logistical support, for example, supporting research participant recruitment and scheduling for focus groups.
  • Coordinate the development and dissemination of research outputs, including reports, presentations, summaries, and practical resources that communicate findings to partners, funders, and relevant audiences.
  • Coordinate the planning and delivery of the Youth STEM Expo, establishing event objectives, programming, budgets, production schedules, and logistics in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
  • Manage event coordination across speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, vendors, and volunteers, overseeing venue requirements, registration, accessibility, technical needs, and participant communications.
  • Oversee event-day operations and contingency planning, coordinating staff and volunteers, troubleshooting emerging issues, and supporting a safe, accessible, and engaging experience for youth and other participants.
  • Work with SCWIST management and finance teams to monitor expenditures and ensure deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
  • Lead planning and actively participate in key project activities such as training, workshops, meetings, and conferences.
  • Contribute strategic insights that promote continuous learning, adaptation, and improvement throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects or initiatives, ideally in the non-profit sector.
  • PMP or CAPM certification, an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning and implementation, including work plans, budgets, schedules, and reporting.
  • Strong project management skills with attention to deliverables and team coordination.
  • Proven ability to manage partnerships and stakeholder relationships including coordinating across diverse communities, sectors, and geographies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with diverse audiences and produce high-quality documentation.
  • Capacity to adapt and problem-solve in an evolving project environment.
  • Passion for SCWIST’s mission and commitment to supporting women, gender-diverse people, equity-deserving, and underrepresented communities in STEM.
  • Lived experience and/or meaningful engagement with equity-deserving communities, including Indigenous, Black, racialized, newcomer, 2SLGBTQI+ communities, and youth who experience disability, neurodivergence, or other forms of difference that shape their participation.
  • Background or experience in STEM is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while fostering collaboration.
  • Familiarity with collaborative project management and organizational systems management software (such as Asana, Volunteer Hub, Google Workspace, Power BI).
  • Completion of online GBA+ (Gender-Based Analysis Plus) certification within one month of position start.
  • Some travel may be required as needed regionally or nationally to attend meetings, convenings, or conferences.

Requirements

  • Remote (Applicant MUST reside within Canada)
  • Full-time employment (Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, infrequent weekend work mainly around event attendance/participation)
  • Salary Range: $90,000 to $95,000 per annum based on 35 hour work week, based on experience.

Benefits

  • SCWIST is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • We welcome and encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, lived experiences, and perspectives.
  • We are also committed to providing an accessible work environment.

Application Process
