Role Description

WSP is seeking an Associate Project Manager to support projects for our Power Testing and Energization (PTE) group within the POWER Delivery Department. This position is posted in multiple Regional Office Locations with the ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location. The candidate selected for this position may work remotely full-time at a location other than a WSP designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a WSP office for periodic meetings.

This Opportunity involves:

  • Assisting with managing the administrative, commercial, and technical components of assigned power delivery project(s).
  • Responsibility for overall performance of the assigned project(s) including financial, technical, client satisfaction, quality, safety, and schedule.
  • Ensuring responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle are adhered to, delivered, and audited with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable corporate standards.

Your Impact includes:

  • Participating in the development of power delivery project proposals, cost estimates, scope, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Participating in developing the work breakdown structure (WBS) tasks and estimated costs.
  • Updating documentation within designated systems and processes, including: Risk (REF/RMP), Project Management Plan (PMP), Project Quality Plan (QP), Project Safety (PSP), and Communications Plan as necessary.
  • Assisting with facilitating project kick-off meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Working collaboratively with Project Accounting to assist with monitoring and tracking project metrics, estimated time-to-completion, cash management, and budgeted margin.
  • Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, cost and change management and control.
  • Coordinating with area/technical managers to address project resource and subcontractor requirements in a timely manner.
  • Assisting with overseeing subcontractors, and coordinating supplier submissions, invoices, and payments.
  • Participating in problem project reviews, providing input about root cause issues and potential solutions to leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Providing regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical area, and business unit managers.
  • Completing formal project closeout activities, along with conducting and documenting a lessons-learned meeting with key project staff.
  • Developing sufficient financial acumen to understand project financial data.
  • Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience within the power delivery/utility industry.
  • Understanding of project delivery process within the power delivery industry and defined background and experience in project management.
  • Competent analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge business and project management.
  • Capable critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make assessments and calculations involving the application of project management principles.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to the changing prioritization of responsibilities.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Well-developed with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products.
  • Effective at coordinating resources, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and others to complete tasks competently and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Working towards project management certification (e.g., PMP).
