The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Product Development Manager in our Healthcare Business Solutions department.

 

This position is home-based.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for leading the development of lifesaving CPR, first aid, and other global healthcare learning programs and clinical products produced by the Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) department. This position provides direction for the design and development, revision, fiscal management, and quality standards for assigned products through (1) leading the development and production of products from start to finish; (2) working with a project manager to develop project plans, proposals, and procedures; (3) collaborating with Association staff and volunteers; (4) financial oversight and budgeting; and (5) ongoing evaluation and revisions for the life of the product.

 

  • Leads project teams in the development of various product components
  • Ensures team’s adherence to a general product development process used across the department and develops sub-processes for project-specific tasks as needed
  • Partners with a project manager to develop project scope and timelines. Ensures all internal and external team members meet standards and deadlines outlined in project plans
  • Develops and monitors budgets and contracts supporting assigned projects
  • Learns about current end-user needs and product issues and uses the information to inform product development decisions
  • Develops a deep understanding of the product audience (healthcare providers or laypersons), supporting evidence from science, content organization, and modes of content delivery for assigned products
  • Coordinates the development of content to meet learning objectives
  • Leads the development and curation of multimedia deliverables (videos, e-learning modules, simulation scenarios, books/e-books, apps, websites, etc.) for assigned programs and products
  • Forms productive partnerships with team members and stakeholders at all levels
  • Trains, motivates, and engages volunteers and paid subject matter experts. Assesses and leverages their skill sets and interests by developing and utilizing volunteers and subject matter experts in meaningful ways
  • Effectively uses informal authority to direct, influence, and motivate others
  • Earns respect of team members based on proven expertise and leadership
  • Communicates on a routine basis with vendors, partners, and senior leadership to discuss product development needs and opportunities for implementation of new product strategies. Escalates issues and opportunities appropriately
  • Runs testing product prototypes
  • Proactively collaborates across project teams to ensure product efficacy and consistency
  • Solicits and acts on feedback to improve relationships, mission impact, and product portfolios
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and the reasoning behind key organizational policies, practices, and procedures
  • Contributes to departmental goals of improving product development processes and product specifications for rapid content updates

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience
  • Validated skills and direct participation in the development of scientific, technical, or medical content, including experience working with subject matter experts and a formal review process
  • Experience leading the development of educational programs/product development projects
  • Experience developing eLearning and other digital products that meet accessibility requirements. Proven ability to deliver complex eLearning modules on schedule
  • Project management experience
  • Instructional design experience
  • Healthcare background preferred; required for candidates who will work with advanced healthcare content
  • High level of detail orientation, without losing sight of the broader vision
  • Ability to make a timely decision while considering multiple factors and opinions
  • Ability to travel up to 20% local and overnight stay
