[Hiring] Product Owner II @Availity

2d ago - Availity is hiring a remote Product Owner II. πŸ’Έ Salary: unspecified πŸ“Location: Worldwide

Role Description

We are seeking a Product Owner to function as the bridge between the Product Manager and the delivery team by aligning both parties to the common goals and big picture of the enterprise and business. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Product, you will be working closely with Product Managers coordinating with them on the scoping and priority issues on a regular basis.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Drive the day-to-day execution of our pre-service prior authorization product area.
  • Partner closely with the Product Manager to turn business priorities and customer needs into clear, actionable work for engineering.
  • Write and refine user stories, acceptance criteria, and requirements.
  • Own and maintain the backlog for your area, making thoughtful trade-offs based on customer value, business priority, and engineering realities.
  • Work with engineering, QA, design, and other partners to clarify requirements and keep work moving.
  • Help break down larger initiatives into practical, phased deliverables.
  • Review completed work to ensure it meets the intended business need and acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with stakeholders across product, operations, and leadership to align on scope, priorities, risks, and dependencies.
  • Use customer feedback, team input, and data to improve requirements and guide product decisions.
  • Support release readiness by ensuring features are well understood, validated, and communicated clearly.

Qualifications

  • 7–8 years of experience in U.S. healthcare, with at least 4 years in a Product Owner, Lead BA, or similar product-focused role.
  • Strong experience on the pre-service side of the business, especially prior authorization workflows.
  • Solid understanding of X12 278 & HL7 transactions; FHIR experience is preferred.
  • Strong experience gathering, documenting, and refining business and functional requirements.
  • Ability to write clear user stories and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can execute with confidence.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL for analysis, validation, or investigating product and workflow issues.
  • Experience working with tools such as Jira/Confluence in an Agile product development environment.
  • Strong judgment, organization, and follow-through when managing competing priorities.
  • Enough technical depth to work effectively with engineering and ask the right questions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to connect business pain points to product opportunities.
  • Comfort using data to validate decisions, investigate issues, and support prioritization.
  • Ability to think in workflows, edge cases, and downstream impact.

Requirements

  • Experience with cloud-based products, especially Azure.
  • Exposure to APIs, interoperability, or healthcare data exchange platforms.
  • Experience with analytics or product insight tools such as Power BI, Pendo, or QuickSight.
  • Familiarity with data pipelines or workflow/reporting-oriented product areas.
  • Experience working in a healthcare technology company or startup environment.

Key skills we’re looking for

  • Healthcare domain strength.
  • Good understanding of pre-service and broader revenue cycle workflows.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare data exchange and transaction standards, especially X12 278, with familiarity in HL7/FHIR as a plus.
  • Ability to understand how provider, payer, and operational workflows connect in the real world.
  • Strong backlog ownership and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to translate business needs into clear, practical requirements.
  • Good product judgment, knowing when to push for more detail, when to simplify, and when to make a trade-off.
  • Comfort working through ambiguity and helping teams move forward without overcomplicating things.
  • Strong partnership skills across product, engineering, QA, and business stakeholders.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to stay close to delivery without turning the role into project management or Scrum Master support.

Eligibility

Video Camera Usage: Availity fosters a collaborative and open culture where communication and engagement are central to our success. As a remote-first company, we are also camera-first and provide all associates with camera/video capability to simulate the office environment. If you are not able to use your camera for all virtual meetings, you should not apply for this role.

Having cameras on helps create a more connected, interactive, and productive environment, allowing teams to communicate more effectively and build stronger working relationships. The usage of cameras also enhances security and protects sensitive company information.
