[Hiring] Product Manager @piq-energy

YDay - piq-energy is hiring a remote Product Manager. 💸 Salary: usd 160,000 - 200,000 per year 📍Location: USA

Role Description

Piq Energy’s Product Manager will own products end-to-end, from understanding customer needs through development, rollout, and iteration. You’ll work alongside product-minded software engineers and power systems engineers to build a purpose-built agentic grid planning and interconnection platform for developers and utilities.

The work is ambiguous. You’ll bring the judgment to choose what matters, the technical ability to build and test ideas, and the follow-through to get useful products into users’ hands (internal + external) quickly. You’ll be hands-on every day:

  • Lead a discovery call
  • Sketch a workflow
  • Weigh in on a design
  • Write a spec
  • Build a prototype
  • Investigate an agent failure
  • Work with Engineering to ship the next improvement

You’ll own customer discovery and build relationships with both the power systems experts and the non-technical users (e.g. developers and executives) who use our products. You’ll translate what you learn into products that complete real planning work reliably, make their results understandable, and earn customers’ trust.

Grid-planning expertise is preferred, but not required. We’re looking for someone who has independently led complex technical products, learns unfamiliar domains quickly, and takes responsibility for outcomes. You’ll work closely with our power systems engineers to develop the domain judgment this work demands.

Responsibilities

  • Own Discovery: Lead customer conversations yourself. Understand how power systems experts and project developers work. Observe real tasks, test assumptions, and turn findings into specific product decisions.
  • Decide What Ships Next: Identify the most valuable problem to solve and scope a useful first release. Make tradeoffs explicit, resolve ambiguity, and sequence work so the team can ship, learn, and improve quickly. Balance immediate customer needs with improvements that benefit the broader product, and proven wins with new bets.
  • Define the Work: Turn what you learn into whatever the team needs to build from: a written spec, a mockup, a working prototype, or a set of test cases. Make expected behavior, acceptance criteria, and important edge cases concrete enough for the team to build and test.
  • Build and Ship: Use code and AI development tools to prototype workflows, test ideas, and, where it makes sense, ship improvements yourself. Work hand-in-hand with Engineering on larger changes, staying involved in implementation decisions, testing, and rollout. Remove blockers and follow through until customers can use what we build.
  • Own Agent Product Quality: Partner with power systems engineers to turn expert judgment and real customer tasks into evaluation cases. Work with Engineering to test whether the agent picks the right studies, sets them up correctly, and explains results clearly. Set release criteria together, investigate failures, and define when the product should ask for clarification or expert review.
  • Close the Loop After Launch: Measure whether customers complete their work successfully and adopt what we ship. Review usage, customer feedback, and product behavior to identify the next improvement. Fix confusing interactions and recurring failures alongside new capabilities, and communicate changes clearly to customers and customer-facing teams.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years building and shipping technical software products in product management, engineering, or a combination of both, with a track record of independently owning products from discovery through launch and iteration.
  • A bias toward action. You can identify a valuable first version, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and learn from shipping while holding a clear bar for quality.
  • Experience building with LLMs or agents, with a practical understanding of their capabilities, failure modes, and how to evaluate whether they accomplish a task reliably.
  • Strong customer discovery skills. You can lead a conversation with a highly technical domain expert and their boss, ask precise follow-up questions, and connect workflow details to business priorities.
  • Clear written and visual communication. You can express a product decision through a concise spec, mockup, prototype, or evaluation case and choose the format that helps the team move forward.
  • The judgment and independence to prioritize competing needs, resolve ambiguity with engineers, and take accountability for product outcomes.
  • Passion for grid planning and interconnection, and demonstrated ability to become effective in an unfamiliar technical domain.

Bonus Points

  • Domain expertise in grid planning, power systems, or interconnection, including experience with developer or utility study workflows.
  • Experience shipping agentic products used by technical professionals to complete complex work.
  • Hands-on building ability. You can write and debug code, work with APIs and data, and use AI development tools to turn an idea into a working prototype or scoped product improvement.
  • Experience building evaluation datasets, inspecting agent traces, or turning expert feedback into repeatable quality tests.
  • Early-stage startup experience working closely with engineers and customers to take products from an initial idea to sustained use.

Compensation

$160k - $200k with equity.
