Role Description

The Platform Manager, Atlassian Jira Platform, serves as the enterprise owner and strategic leader for the full Atlassian ecosystem, including Jira Service Management (JSM), Jira Software (JSW), and integrated DevSecOps toolchains. This role is responsible for platform architecture, governance, workflow engineering, CMDB/Assets ownership, automation strategy, and AI‑driven service optimization.

This is a hands‑on leadership role overseeing a team of engineers while driving a multi‑year roadmap focused on scalability, modernization, automation, and intelligent service operations. The Platform Manager acts as the technical SME, platform and product owner, and primary liaison to stakeholders, ensuring the Atlassian suite meets enterprise standards for performance, reliability, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Platform Strategy & Roadmap
  • Define and execute a 3–5 year enterprise roadmap for the Atlassian platform, including modernization, cloud strategy, automation, AI integration, and DevSecOps alignment.
  • Establish platform governance, standards, and lifecycle management practices across all business units.
  • Evaluate new Atlassian features, marketplace apps, and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement.
  • Align platform strategy with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, and engineering leadership.
• Technical Leadership & Architecture
  • Serve as the enterprise authority for Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Bitbucket, and related Atlassian tools.
  • Architect scalable solutions for workflows, automation, integrations, and custom development using Atlassian APIs, Forge, ScriptRunner, and integration platforms.
  • Oversee platform performance, reliability, and security through proactive monitoring and optimization.
  • Lead integration efforts with CI/CD pipelines, identity management, monitoring tools, and DevSecOps ecosystems.
• Team Management & Delivery Leadership
  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Oversee workload planning, sprint execution, and delivery of platform enhancements.
  • Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and architectural oversight for the engineering team.
  • Support career development, training, and recruitment of technical talent.
• ITSM, CMDB & Service Management Ownership
  • Own the enterprise CMDB/Assets module, ensuring data accuracy, governance, and alignment with ITIL and ITSM best practices.
  • Drive configuration management maturity and integration with JSM, asset management, and discovery tools.
  • Partner with Service Management leadership to enhance incident, change, problem, and request workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with audit, regulatory, and security requirements.
• AI, Automation & Intelligent Operations
  • Expand AI‑driven capabilities within Jira and JSM, including virtual agents, predictive analytics, intelligent routing, and automated remediation.
  • Implement automation frameworks using Atlassian Automation, ScriptRunner, and REST APIs.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual work, improve service delivery, and enhance user experience through automation and machine learning.
  • Lead experimentation and adoption of GenAI/LLM‑based tools for support, reporting, and workflow optimization.
• Stakeholder Engagement & Enterprise Adoption
  • Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, product, and business teams to understand requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
  • Lead enterprise onboarding, training, and adoption initiatives for Atlassian tools.
  • Communicate platform updates, roadmap progress, and performance metrics to senior leadership.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for platform‑related issues and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of Jira/Atlassian administration and engineering experience in enterprise environments.
• 2+ years in a Lead, Platform Owner, or Senior Engineering role.
• Strong expertise in:
  • Jira Service Management (JSM)
  • Jira Software (JSW)
  • Workflow and automation design
  • Assets/Insight (CMDB)
  • Portal and service desk configuration
• Hands‑on experience with automation rules, scripting, and integrations.
• Experience implementing AI features, virtual agents, or smart automation.
• Knowledge of ITSM, Agile, and DevOps/DevSecOps practices, familiarity with Confluence.
• Excellent communication skills for working with U.S. stakeholders.
• Ability to work U.S. business hours.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Rovo or other AI‑driven service tools.
• Experience integrating GenAI/LLM tools for support or reporting automation.
• Scripting knowledge (Groovy, Python, REST APIs).
• Experience with enterprise DevOps integrations (GitHub, Bitbucket, CI/CD).
• Experience mentoring or leading small technical teams.
• Atlassian certifications (ACP‑620, ACP‑420, ACP‑520, or equivalent).
