Role Description

The Group Product Manager, Financial Services is a strategic product leader responsible for Wave/SMB’s payments capabilities and broader financial services experiences that help small businesses move, manage, and trust their money. This role leads Product Managers across payments acceptance and processing, platform modernization, risk and fraud mitigation, and future financial services capabilities.

The ideal candidate can balance near-term platform stability, compliance, reliability, and customer trust with the longer-term vision for how financial services power a unified, year-round SMB experience. They will translate strategy into execution by setting clear priorities, managing product budgets, improving discovery and development practices, and creating the operating rhythm needed to deliver measurable outcomes. This is a coach-player role for a leader who can operate with senior stakeholders, dig into operational and technical details when needed, and coach Product Managers through ambiguity.

Here’s How You Make an Impact:

• Define and own the product vision and strategy for Financial Services for the Small Business product suite.
• Lead the team through active platform modernization work, including our payments infrastructure migration, reduce fraud exposure, resolve reliability gaps, and restore and build customer trust.
• Own uptime, reliability, and observability commitments for payments surfaces, partnering with Engineering and Data teams to meet aggressive platform stability SLAs on some of our most business-critical systems.
• Partner closely with Fraud/Risk Operations, Compliance, and Security on onboarding, underwriting, and fraud mitigation practices, ensuring the product meets regulatory and risk standards without sacrificing customer experience.
• Collaborate with other product leads — particularly Accounting and Tax — to ensure payments/financial services workflows integrate cleanly into a seamless, end-to-end SMB experience rather than operating as a silo.
• Manage key stakeholders and business partners across Engineering, Design, Customer Success, Finance, Risk/Fraud Operations, Compliance, Security, and Marketing to align on priorities, execute the product vision, and deliver against clear metrics and outcomes.
• Craft logical business cases, understand financial impacts, and define and execute business and customer benefit OKRs. Use data to prioritize opportunities, demonstrate product value, and impact KPIs.
• Identify where AI can meaningfully improve day-to-day team productivity, and where AI can strengthen fraud detection, risk decisioning, operational workflows, or the customer-facing experience.
• Be viewed as a subject matter expert in financial services by presenting compelling strategy and plans, and providing business leadership that drives results for your team.
• Build and coach a high-performing product team by setting clear ownership, raising the quality of product thinking, helping Product Managers connect strategy to execution, and creating the conditions for strong cross-functional collaboration.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, driving operational excellence through retrospectives, coaching, and ongoing refinement of team processes and ways of working.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in product management, with a minimum of 5 years in the fintech industry, and 2+ years leading product teams at the Group level or above.
• Deep expertise in financial services, ideally with a strong background in payments acquiring, acceptance, payment facilitation, fraud and risk controls, and processor or platform partnerships.
• In-depth knowledge of financial products onboarding experiences, including KYC and KYB, and risk and fraud mitigation practices.
• Experience with payment processor or platform partnerships and migrations at scale is a strong plus, especially in environments where reliability, fraud exposure, compliance obligations, customer trust, and business continuity all need to be managed at the same time.
• Proven track record leading product teams and taking new products from ideation to launch to scale in a fintech environment.
• Comfort operating under compliance, regulatory, and audit constraints without losing sight of customer and business outcomes.
• Demonstrated judgment on where to apply AI — able to identify high-leverage opportunities to improve your team's own productivity, as well as opportunities to strengthen fraud/risk decisioning or the customer experience.
• Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and influence customers, business partners, engineers, and cross-functional partners across the organization.
• Proven ability to prioritize and make hard decisions in a fast-paced environment, while actively identifying and mitigating issues that could impact successful completion of goals.
• Strong people leadership experience, including leading Product Managers, developing talent, setting priorities, and building high-performing teams, with genuine comfort operating as a coach-player.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical and financial concepts clearly to non-technical audiences and influence senior stakeholders across business and technology functions.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data-related field, or a related discipline, or the equivalent through a combination of education and relevant work experience.

Requirements

• $119,231 - $190,769 a year
• Final compensation is determined based on experience, expertise, and role alignment. Most candidates are hired within the middle of the range, with the upper end reserved for those bringing exceptional depth, impact, and immediate autonomy.
