Role Description
The Virtual Nurse will deliver exemplary nursing care virtually, in collaboration with the care team. This virtual care will be provided to inpatients at Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, and Duke Lake Norman Hospital.

Provide nursing care in a virtual setting in accordance with medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures.

Support nursing tasks virtually such as admission questionnaires, discharge education, patient education, and nurse mentoring.

Utilize patient EMR to support patient admission, education, discharge planning, identify trends, monitor compliance of care bundles, and collaborate with the bedside multidisciplinary health care team.

Serve as a resource for inpatient support for novice nurses developing their clinical competencies.

Provide guidance and assistance in assessment, evaluation, and intervention responsibilities with patients.
Qualifications

Preceptor and Charge Nurse Experience is required.

Minimum 3-5 years of appropriate inpatient clinical experience is required.

Preferred 5-10+ years of appropriate inpatient clinical experience.

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.

Graduation from an accredited Bachelorβs Degree in Nursing (or higher) OR Associate's Degree in Nursing OR Nursing Diploma program.

Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required for Experienced Registered Nurses.

All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.
Requirements

Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and NCA.

Knowledge of and appropriate application of the nursing process.

Ability to excel with computer technology and learn new software programs.

Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families using virtual technology.

Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, and administrators through virtual technology.

Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools.

Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing Required.
