Role Description

The Virtual Nurse, RN, coordinates and delivers professional, clinical, quality, and educational services to patients engaging with MUSC via virtual care. This role reports to leadership within the MUSC Center for Telehealth, a national Center of Excellence. The Virtual Nurse, RN, works to develop and ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and overall success of virtual care services through convenient, timely care navigation for patients and support of virtual providers. This position provides centralized support for virtual visits for multiple levels of care along the care continuum.

• Responsible for coordinating pre-visit, during visit, and post visit care planning for patients, providers, and other care team members.
• Processes patient referrals and other care plan related needs, as requested.
• Provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation).
• Directs and leads other assigned team members and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice.
• Provides patient/family centered care focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
• Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and professional behavior.
• Demonstrates the ability to function in a professional setting through active participation in a professional practice model.
• Coordinates the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services through the application of care management principles.
• Identifies clinical priorities and initiates action to improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
• RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
• A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.
• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Requirements

• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
• Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.
• Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
• Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
• Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, as well as to perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.
• Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
• Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.
• Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
