Role Description
The ED Senior Registered Dietitian (Sr. RD) has three or more years of experience with treating eating disorders and is responsible to consult in a collaborative fashion with the Director of Nutrition & Wellness and the treatment team to ensure the best standard of nutrition and dietary services are occurring. Additionally, the Sr. RD provides support to less experienced RDs in the facility and/or region as specified by the facility leadership and Director of Nutrition & Wellness. The Sr. RD completes a Dietary Assessment when indicated and directed by the treatment team. The RD meets with all assigned patients weekly, conducts Nutrition Education Groups and Dietary Experientials.
Essential Job Functions

Conduct Dietary Initial Intake Assessment and corresponding documentation within 72 hours of admission, including collecting data related to height, weight medical history, and determine TBW.

Implement one dietary treatment plan for each patient within 72 hours of admission.

Conduct weekly, and discharge sessions with patients. Daily written documentation of each session completed in an appropriate time frame.

Document each patient’s progress throughout the treatment stay according to Center for Discovery documentation guidelines and protocols.

Meet with each assigned patient 1-2 times per week based on level of care, and implement/manage individualized dietary meal plans to meet patient’s needs.

Identify weekly treatment goals and communicate to treatment team relative to individual patient needs. Registered Dietitian is an integral part of the treatment team process.

Co-facilitate therapeutic family meals appropriate to level of care.

Facilitate meals as well as Nutrition Groups weekly that are appropriate to the adult and adolescent age groups.

Make appropriate changes to individualized meal plan as needed based on medical indicators and weight goals/trends.

Communication with referring and/or outpatient dietitian upon admit to treatment, during course of treatment as needed, and upon discharge from program.

Communication with Medical Doctor, as needed, regarding any medical problems that may require dietary intervention. Communication with Psychiatrist where applicable.

RD remains appropriately accessible to family members, including weekly communication (phone, email or in person) with parents of adolescents.

Represents Center for Discovery through a positive public presence while out in community settings such as Educational events, Marketing events, Conferences and Talks.

Support less experienced RDs in the facility and/or region with cases, collateral communication and group facilitation within the amount of time per week designated by the facility leadership and Director of Nutrition & Wellness.
Qualifications

Bachelors Degree with appropriate emphasis and completed accredited dietetic internship.

Preferred three years experience in dietary counseling.

The Registered Dietitian must be fully registered/certified in the appropriate state; candidates who have completed their dietetic internship and are eligible to take the registration exam may be considered.

Must have a thorough knowledge of nutrition and dietary interventions in the mental health field.

Must be able to communicate with persons from all educational and cultural backgrounds.

Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
