Role Description

Provides assistance with Surgical & Orthopedic Care Clinic patients, in conjunction with the Supervisor of Orthopedics and Surgical Care. The remote registered nurse (RN) is responsible for assisting the onsite MA, LPN, RN in collaboration with the provider and other members of the health care team with all clinical services available at the clinic through the EMR system. Clinical responsibilities include:

• Working the task list of needs for the patients through the EMR.
• Communicating with the provider, care team, and patient.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

• Gathering pertinent health data through physical assessments and biological samples.
• Collecting specimens utilizing proper technique for laboratory analysis.
• Performing point of care testing for all testing done in clinic.
• Providing patient care as directed by physician or advanced practice clinician.
• Making skilled judgments based on patient presentation and protocols in place.
• Documenting assessments, interventions, patient/family interactions/responses, medications dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical record.
• Assisting other health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures, treatments, and minor surgical procedures in the clinic setting.
• Participating in the development of the plan of care with other team members and safely implementing that plan.
• Promoting wellness by providing patient education materials and communicating provider advice/instructions.
• Scheduling, coordinating, and communicating referrals to specialists and services ordered by the provider.
• Assisting in patient scheduling of surgical procedures and prior authorizations.
• Assisting the Orthopedic Surgeon, General Surgeon, and Advanced Practice Providers in procedures performed within the clinic.
• Obtaining, verifying, and recording health history of patients.
• Ensuring all patient information is accurate and in the correct locations of the patient chart for quality reporting and data extraction purposes.
• Coordinating and managing care of patients seen by provider including following up and tracking testing, referrals.
• Staying informed of insurance requirements and guidelines for patient care.
• Performing prior authorizations and acting as patient advocate.
• Regularly monitoring patients as appropriate to promote wellness and health maintenance including preventative and chronic care.
• Assisting in the preop education with patients.
• Leading by example, managing up, and supporting change throughout the department and the organization.
• Giving input into Huddle topics and monthly department meetings.
• Maintaining records of both meetings that are available to staff.
• Communicating results and education to patients through phone or portal and documenting it within the EMR.
• Assisting the care team in working the nursing tasks through the EMR.
• Communicating closely with the nursing and provider team.

Qualifications

• Minimum Required Experience: clinic experience with all ages.
• Preferred Experience: Two to three years.
• Minimum Required Education: Registered Nurse or Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree.
• Minimum Required Licenses: Kansas Licensed Registered Nurse.
• Minimum Required Certifications: CPR Certification.
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
