Role Description

In this Physician Coder Quality Associate position, you bring your 5 years of Ambulatory Physician coding experience to a team who resolves complex denials, identifies trends, and provides solutions to help support mid-revenue cycle. This is a Quality position, not a day-to-day coding production role, but does require coding proficiency and recent Physician Ambulatory/Professional Coding experience. This position is task-solution-oriented ensuring quality in the Ambulatory Coding department and allows opportunity for coaching fellow coders through different aspects of Ambulatory Coding and denial prevention.

Qualifications

• 5 years current experience in Ambulatory Physician-based coding
• Bachelor's degree in HIMS or equivalent
• Must be Certified Coder through AAPC or AHIMA

• This is a fully remote position available only in specific states: AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI & WY

Core Functions

• Provides coding and guidance for non-standard billing.
• Reviews medical records and performs audits of clinical documentation.
• Assists with maintaining system-wide consistency in coding practices.
• Acts as a knowledge resource to Physician Practice Operations and clinical departments.
• Researches coding discrepancies and trends of inpatient and/or outpatient charge capture.
• Maintains current knowledge in all coding regulatory updates.
• Serves as a resource for designing, testing, and implementing workflows.
• Acts as Physician coding liaison to clinical informatics team.
• Works independently under limited supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or equivalent experience.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or equivalent certification in active status.
• 5 years of current and progressively responsible coding experience.
• Thorough knowledge of ICD-10 coding and/or CPT coding principles.
• In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Extensive knowledge of coding conventions and reimbursement guidelines.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to understand Medicare, Physician Fee Schedule, and clinical coding databases.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Estimated Pay Range

$29.11 - $48.51 / hour. Banner Health is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted compensation range is a reasonable estimate based on the circumstances at the time of posting.
