Role Description
The Physician Assistant for the National TeleOncology Program based out of Durham VA Medical Center will be fully qualified and certified to function in both a clinical and administrative role and will follow the guidelines and policies of the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center. This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility to assume clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative duties and assignments related to the care of patients.
Responsibilities

Clinical:
-
The primary focus of practice is the clinical management of patients assigned to the patient care team.

Participates as a key patient care team member in formulating treatment plans and monitoring patient progress.

Utilizes and promotes approved standards of care, procedures, methods, techniques, safety precautions, and protocols in their application to patients.

Collaborates with other medical center health care resources to ensure continuity of care.

Keeps abreast of the latest trends, skills, procedures, equipment, and protocols relevant to patient care.

Facilitates patient care and their entry and exit from various health care systems by establishing and maintaining liaison with medical specialists and associated staff.

Administrative/Education/Research:
-
Promotes and participates in delivering patient and family health care education.

Attends conferences and committee meetings as assigned by the supervising physician.

Participates, directs, and provides opportunities for staff development through in-service education.

Facilitates responses/actions to patient inquiries regarding care and treatment received.

Assures self-development responsibilities and maintains current knowledge of trends in the management of patients.

Supervisory duties and responsibilities:
-
Ability to provide clinically and occupationally focused orientation to new PA appointees and mentoring other PA staff members.

Knowledge of the FPPE and OPPE processes to evaluate and assess patient care services provided by PA staff.

Knowledge of the educational needs of PAs.

Ability to provide leadership and clinical oversight of PAs at the facility.

Ability to exercise independent judgment and perform tasks involving unique technical, supervisory, or administrative lines.

Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional clinical staff.

Qualifications
-
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Physician Assistant Basic Requirements:
-
Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant.

Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process of taking the exam).
-
Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience:

Hematology/oncology experience
-
1+ years of supervisory experience
-
2+ years of VA oncology/hematology outpatient experience
-
Remote/telehealth work experience
-
Demonstration of leadership skills
Requirements
-
PA clinical leaders/administrative leaders require five years of experience which included leadership assignments that involved formulating program objectives and priorities, implementing plans and practices, and interpreting regulatory and organizational guidance to develop and implement policies and/or procedures.

Demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's):

Ability to assess information and make recommendations that may significantly affect the content, interpretation, or development of programs concerning critical matters or key issues within the health care system.

Ability to schedule and supervise staff, students, or ancillary personnel, to include conducting performance evaluations.

Skill in planning, organizing, directing, and controlling an integrated program.

Skill in design, management of budget, and cost benefit analysis to ensure optimal stewardship of resources.

Ability to analyze complex medical care, organizational processes and/or systems, and develop and implement solutions that improve outcomes at the program or service level.

Ability to develop and recommend new or revised policies or procedures to justify program goals and motivate assigned personnel.
