Role Description

The Inpatient Pharmacy Manager works under minimal direction to supervise, direct, coordinate and provide first line administrative and technical functions for our front line personnel including pharmacists, technicians, volunteers, and students. The person in this position is considered an operational manager of the pharmacy and handles the day-to-day operation of the pharmacy and pharmacy staff.

• Interacts with healthcare staff outside of pharmacy to ensure good workflow and working relationships.
• May work online based on department need to help with day-to-day dispensing functions, tasks, and job duties to provide timely and efficient patient services.
• Assists with maintaining, changing, and implementing new workflows, technology/automation, and process improvement projects.
• Assists personnel with human resource functions and onboard, develop, and terminate their direct reports if necessary.
• Provides leadership and assistance for developing appropriate training, education, and competencies for employees and rotation students.
• Promotes staff engagement and great customer service.
• Represents the department by serving on committees and attending meetings as assigned.
• Responsible for prioritizing the workload and ensuring that the technician(s), student(s), and pharmacist(s) perform work in the order that best accommodates the workload.
• Works with minimal supervision to assess, prepare, dispense, and assist in coordinating all day-to-day dispensing functions as necessary.
• Utilizes knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment to provide effective and safe patient care.
• Reports adverse drug events and medication safety events, and documents interventions in the medical record.
• Communicates frequently with other healthcare professionals as a drug information resource and provides educational information to ensure great patient care.
• Expected to serve in various leadership roles to support the goals and vision of the service line.
• Assists pharmacy management with precepting pharmacy students and residents.
• Promotes staff engagement and continued learning through continued education presentations and departmental in-services.
• Assists in designing and implementing process improvements throughout the department.
• Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Pharmacy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree plus Five (5) years of applicable experience with advanced skills.
• Certification as a licensed Registered Pharmacist by the State of Arkansas or eligible for licensure by the State of Arkansas.

Requirements

• Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a Pharm.D.
• Advanced degree – (MS, MBA, MHA, MPA, etc.) AND/OR Completion of a general or administrative ASHP-accredited residency.
• Prior supervisory or personnel management experience.
• Board certification or equivalent accredited certification/credentials in a related field.
